Cast my vote for the Chicago Blues.
I think it works, I envision a saxophone for a symbol with blues going up and around the shape.
Hey, if they can have The Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns (yeah, I know they came from other people or shortened names) why not? Better than the weather (Sun, Storm) or a single letter (A's)

Pablo! Brotha, where has he been?!
The only problem I'd have with the Blues is that the St. Louis NHL franchise already has that name. Of course, if the NHL keeps up this nonsense, that'll be a non-starter.

Michael Alter emailed me back this morning and said Fire sounds great but would be unlikely because of the Soccer team. I then suggested Blues. (at least the other Blues is in another state)
What would a logo look like for the Blues? A guitar is too much like the Rockers. A harmonica would be...
let's just say inapproprite and leave it at that.
Hmm JetBlue as a sponser - do they fly into Chicago yet?

Tamika's having a contest on her site to name the new Chicago team. Five winners will win a bag of WNBA goodies.
www.catchin24.com
You have to join the fan club to enter contests, I believe.

Dude, saxophone man. With the word Blues wrapped up and around to the mouthpiece. Would be awesome.

Come to the All Star Game this year, I'll be there. Maybe some other board junkies will be too.

DTS that's brilliant! I actually pictured Lisa Simpson when I was thinking Blues.
gownbago, I looked up Alter Group online to find out about the owner and there was an email address. At first I promised not to give it out and just wanted to congratulate him and wish him luck, but now he's welcoming suggestions. He returns emails promptly. I think he's going to be a really good team owner.
I live in L.A. right now, but hope to relocate to Indy. Where you at?

I am putting as much cash away as I can and even have a pennies jar to make sure I don't miss a thing that week and week-end.
But, we still have the draft and the first half of the season to look forward to, not to mention the excitement this free agency stuff is bringing.

The Blues originated in Kansas City and St. Louis, not Chicago. But you could do "The Blues Sisters." Or not.
On that note, how about:
Team of the Broad Shoulders
The Sues (with appropriately fierce t-rex logo)
The Too Far Pavilions
The Jordanaires
The Belugas (with the Shedd as a sponsor--just think of the mascot possibilities)
The More Fun Than the Blackhawks, Anyway
The Unos (And everything from logo to mascot to giveaways pizza-themed)
The A-Bombs (U of C's football field as the logo)
The Gold Coasters (Lamé everywhere!)
The Mother Cabrinis (with Green the primary uni color)
But seriously,
The Hawk. (Not seriously: The mascot could pass wind.)

thanks, dtsms, for advancing the pitch for "blues."
inky, i hear you, but must we pick nits? can't we just think about where the blues is best? hmmmm??? funny, 'cause even tho kc is also known for ribs, i think of chitown when i think of ribs, having grown up on them there. only other thing that comes to mind is something having to do with lake michigan, which was six blocks from where i grew up. (hey, i gotta go with what i know.)
as for jetblue, slovy, over united's (nearly) dead body!

hey, how about the chicago burn? too weird?
found this interesting tidbit:
On August 12, 1833, the Town of Chicago was incorporated with a population of 350. Incorporation was enabled by an act of the legislature, passed February 12, 1831, which provided that any community of over 150 inhabitants was authorized to incorporate as a town, with limits not to exceed one square mile in extent.
The name "Chicago" derived from the Indians but it is not known which tribe named the town and many theories have been advanced to explain the origin of the name. One generally accepted is that the name comes from the Indian words for either wild onion or skunk, but some historians believe that the word Chicago denoted "strong" or "great." Dr. William Barry, first secretary of the Chicago Historical Society, wrote, "Whatever may have been the etymological meaning of the word Chicago in its practical use, it probably denoted strong or great. The Indians applied this term to the Mississippi River, to thunder, or to the voice of the great Manitou." M. M. Quaife in his book Checagou asserts that the significance of the name was anything great or powerful.

I don't think Burn is any weirder than Shock, we are just used to Shock at this point.
