Kobe and his wife were presented with special retirement rings from Jeanie Buss before tonight's game.

Story book ending. 20 years, 60 pts and a win. Couldn't have scripted it any better.

What. The. Fuck. Did I just watch... Shocked
Seriously? I am glad that his being accused of rape allowed him to channel "The Black Mamba" and led to such an exciting transformation. I mean, it clearly was a pivotal, defining moment in his life that sprung him on to greatness.

And how very traumatic it was for him...and his wife...and his family.... They were clearly all equal victims in this.

How does any reputable media outlet ever frame an accused rape in this way? I understand that he wasn't convicted, and that a bad act, no matter how heinous should not define the totality of a person's life, that we can view a human being as a complex entity with both positive and negative traits where the good doesn't wipe out the bad, nor the bad the good...

But to frame this situation in the way they do? Like what happened back then was all about him and the alleged victim nothing but an afterthought--as if the victim were simply a plot point in the Story of Kobe...

Wow. Just wow.

Staples Center sells $1.2 million worth of Kobe Bryant merchandise

Quote:
Kobe Bryant not only set a points record for a player of his age in his final NBA game Wednesday night -- he also helped the Staples Center and the Los Angeles Lakers break all-time industry merchandise records.

On Wednesday alone, the Staples Center sold $1.2 million worth of Kobe merchandise, Sean Ryan, AEG vice president of merchandise told ESPN. Ryan said that's a single-day sales record for any arena in the world.

The previous record, Ryan said, was set by Led Zeppelin, who sold $1 million worth of merchandise in London at the O2 Arena on Dec. 10, 2007, the group's first full-length concert in three decades.
