Please tell us why the Mystics would draft a Guard at #6 when Nia Coffey is still available on your board. The Guard position doesn't seem a need for the Mystics unless Plum or DeShields drop to the #6 pick which I don't see happening.

You might be right - could see it going that way. I just question if Coffey is really a 3. Jones is sort of a combo, could be a backup to Hill.

If Chicago drafts Plum,Mitchell or Deshields, they'll be forced to make a trade.Too many guards for too little minutes.

Why are people so against the backcourt of Plum & Slooty ? Plum can play the 2 albeit she will struggle drastically on defense , but id be open to the idea or at least experiment with it before saying it wont work or someone has to get traded. If anything Chicago would be better suited choosing the other 2 of the Big 3 in this draft . Mitch / DD tbh

They would still have Pondexter and Faulkner and Quigley and Copper and Laney. That's too many guards.

Never said I was against a Plum/Sloot backcourt. However,a sloot/Plum backcourt would be the worst defensive backcourt in the wnba.
If Chicago drafts Plum,Faulkner is trade bait.If they draft Deshields,Pondexter & Quigley are trade bait.

I might be mistaken but I don't recall the Mystics ever drafting a player who played for a College or University in Texas. Also, the Mystics have Toliver, Hill, Latta and Cloud at Guard. It seems to me the Mystics need is in the frontcourt, I see Coffey as a 3/4 combo who can help the Mystics coming off the bench.

I think for every team except the Mystics, Coffey is a project trying to transition from post to SF. However, DC has two post players in EDD and Meesseman who spend a good amount of time on the perimeter shooting jump shots. Washington is the one team that can actually use a small forward who hangs out under the basket. Grabbing rebounds and scoring in the paint is what Coffey does best, so playing 3 in DC would be less of a change than elsewhere -- at least on offense. She would still have to make the full adjustment on defense.

I'm thinking Bird & Whalen will be retired by 2020.

Maybe Whalen, but certainly not Bird.Geno would find a way to put Sue and Diana on the roster. There needs to be more player overturn when it comes to USA basketball.

@ Shades,
Forgot about Jefferson.I'd have no issues if she made the 2020 Olympics under Geno.Jefferson would be a fresh face.

Been going back and forth as to whether I think DeShields (if she comes out) or Plum should go #1 (assuming Mitchell does not declare).
DeShields has the tantalizing athleticism and potential, but, as Richyy points out, she is 22, not 19. Plum is much more of a finished product, but also much closer to her ceiling. Will DeShields reach her potential (or does it depend on her coach)? Will Plum be able to defend bigger guards in the W? Lots of questions.
I keep wondering about the possibility of a trade between San Antonio and Atlanta...maybe a package of the #1 and #5 picks and for McCoughtry and the #7 pick. It would give SA the SF next to McBride and Jefferson, plus much-needed offensive firepower. If Angel wants out of Atlanta, I could see a trade to net Atlanta the top pick while also improving the #7 pick to #5. At #7, San Antonio could still draft a good prospect (which would be made even better if Mitchell were to declare, deepening the draft). And Atlanta would get some young players to build around its core of Hayes/Clarendon/Williams.

Yeah, DeShields is an actual 22 before the 2017 draft. Is she really considering waiting until she's 23 to get drafted into a tougher deeper draft? Time to get your butt into the real world.

No, but few guards are great defenders.

Wait now.... the most recent Charles trade cost the Liberty three good players. The Delle Donne trade cost Washington DC three not as good players, but McCoughtry is only worth the #1 pick and a bump up of only two spots on the first round pick? I'd be up in arms if I was an ATL fan. Think three players like the rest if the franchise player trades. More like #1 & #5 & first round in 2018 for McCoughtry.

Haven't seen much evidence of that. Did the ice cream shop get delayed or scuttled?

Just what they need, young players with no franchise player. It's kinda like Connecticut with no Chiney.

Aww was you re fav player not talked about. Now is it EDD who is bullshit Plum who is bullshit or are you just so hurt that Uconn produces great players |
The "bullshit" is that they left Mitchell off the list.Mitchell clearly deserves to be on the "sweet 16 three to see watch list".You can also make a case for Wilson.Without Coates, and a less than 100% Gray.Wilson must play a great game.If Plum,Mitchell, and Wilson don't play great games their teams will lose.Uconn can still win if Williams or Samuelson have a mediocre game.
The sweet 16 three to see should be Plum,Mitchell and Wilson.

I'm intrigued by the Sweet 16 freshmen, all of whom have been key to their teams' success: Slocum, Ionescu + other 2 Oregon starters, McCowan, Holmes... who else?
