I hope you're wrong. Coffey at 2 seems high. I hope we can grab her at 9. Also, the last thing the Sky need is another point guard with Sloot and Lil J. |

WNBA Draft 2017: Questionnaire With Draft Invitees
http://www.wnba.com/news/wnba-draft-2017-questionnaire-draft-invitees/
Most of these will be edited down answers. See full answers at the link.
Which WNBA players inspired you to play the game?
Kelsey Plum: “Diana Taurasi."
Kaela Davis: “Candace Parker is my godsister, so to have her around is obviously all the influence you need."
Nia Coffey: “She just retired, but Tamika Catchings."
Erica McCall: “Growing up, it was always Lisa Leslie."
Allisha Gray: “My favorite player is Diana Taurasi."
Sydney Wiese: “Growing up in Phoenix, I would go to Mercury games all the time. I also have family in Minnesota. So the Lynx and the Mercury were my two go-to teams to watch. I’ve always been a fan of Diana Taurasi, her competitiveness and her passion. And then from the point guard position, Lindsay Whalen always brought that toughness but also provided a calming presence as the team leader. Whatever they needed from her, she did it.”
Brionna Jones: “The one player that I’ve watched quite a bit would be Candace Parker."
What are you going to miss most about college?
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough: “A lot. The massages, the snacks, the charter flights, coach B., my teammates."
Davis: “This year’s team was really special. We got hit with a lot of different things, a lot of adversity, and we found a way to pull it out and win the national championship."
Alaina Coates: “The random gifts of gear. I can’t even lie – coach Staley spoiled us."
What’s the one thing you most want to do in NYC?
Davis: “My dad played here for a year, so we’ve been here back and forth."
Coates: “It’s really exciting, because I haven’t been to New York before."
Coffey: “My sister went to Marist College, so I’ve been to the city a lot."
McCall: “The September 11 Memorial would be cool, or the Empire State Building."
Gray: “I’ve never been to New York, but I know about their pizza."
Alexis Jones: “ I actually would love to go to the store where the show Cake Boss was based, across the water in Hoboken, New Jersey.”
Wiese: “I’m hoping my parents and I can just go for a walk in Times Square."
Brionna Jones: “I’ve been to New York plenty of times, but I’ve never been to Central Park."

I was just trying to get into Michael Cooper's head and that's what came out.

http://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/19143499/mock-draft-predicting-wnba-draft-first-round
(Edited down summaries)
Mechelle Voepel Mock Draft
1. San Antonio Kelsey Plum, Washington, 5-foot-8, guard
The Stars are trying to rebuild
2. Chicago Nia Coffey, Northwestern, 6-1, forward
Chicago might not be able to risk her still being around when the Sky pick at No. 9.
3. Dallas Allisha Gray, South Carolina, 6-0, guard
The Wings took small forward Aerial Powers last year, but she's still recovering from hip surgery.
4. Dallas Alaina Coates, South Carolina, 6-4, center
Her defense is very good, she's a strong rebounder and she fits a need for Dallas. But are the Wings willing to wait for her?
5. San Antonio Erica McCall, Stanford, 6-3, forward
Is this too high for her to go? Maybe. McCall appears to have a lot of potential to develop.
6. Washington Brittney Sykes, Syracuse, 5-9, guard
Washington doesn't have a glaring need, and the Mystics' brain trust has had a lot to debate about this pick.
7. Atlanta Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Maryland, 5-11, guard
If the Mystics take Walker-Kimbrough, Sykes could go to Atlanta.
8. Connecticut Brionna Jones, Maryland, 6-3, forward
Is any team with a first-round pick less enthusiastic about the draft than the Sun? Coach/GM Curt Miller has sounded pretty lukewarm about everyone not named Plum or Coates, and they're not falling this far.
Miller's bluffing. He loves the draft. This one isn't that terrible.
9. Chicago Alexis Jones, Baylor, 5-9, guard
If the Sky take Coffey at No. 2, they'll probably go with a guard for their second pick.
10. Dallas Kaela Davis, South Carolina, 6-2, guard
Could all three of the Gamecocks players really end up in Dallas, where South Carolina just won the national championship?
Gift price. Gimmicky rationale from Voepel.
11. Los Angeles Chantel Osahor, Washington, 6-2, forward/center
She's a wonderfully instinctive player, and if health/fitness is a concern, being on a veteran team where her minutes would be limited might be a good fit.
I'm on board with Voepel on this one, and I'm more sure than ever that she reads this board.
12. Minnesota Alexis Peterson, Syracuse, 5-7, guard
ike the Sparks, the Lynx don't have any specific holes to fill. But Minnesota's roster is on the older side, and a young guard who can score coming off the bench might help.
I'd be a little surprised if she showed up her. Don't think Reeve loves shrimpy guards, but might be tough to resist considering the season she had. Personally would like Prince if not Osahor, but it sounds like Reeve wants a PG/CG. She could get a decent enough PG/CG at #24, but Reeve don't listen.

There's a ND connection between SAN GM Riley and Jewell Loyd.
How about #1 + #5 for Loyd + #15? Drop the #15?

Miller will be much more excited about the draft if he gets Jones at #8

WNBA expert, coach intrigued by FSU players

“So Leticia can play. She’s a high-percentage shooter. She can really pass. I like her game. I’m sure the question that coaches will need to have answered is, ‘How much time will you miss during the season, in different seasons, because of your commitments to your own national team?’” |
I think that's part of the reason the Lynx sound like they're moving on from Cruz. Aside from looking like a rookie in the playoffs, Cruz constantly has some national team obligations.

Williams Looks to Play in the WNBA
http://www.wruf.com/headlines/2017/04/13/williams-looks-play-wnba/
Quote: |
In her senior season, Williams without a doubt rose to the occasion. After the team lost a key player early in the season, Williams took charge. This was never more evident than in the Gators’ conference game at Vanderbilt. Williams scored a career high 43 points and added 14 boards to lead her team to a 93-73 victory. Williams lead the Gators in scoring on the season with 19.2 points per game. |
Quote: |
Williams also added that since the season has been over, she has been working out and practicing a lot of on-court drills. |

I'm guessing Romero's probable overseas commitments are what's keeping her out of the first round

So it wouldn't make sense for the Lynx to move on from Cruz, which was in hindsight kind of an expensive experiment (could have had Stokes), to pick up Romero in the draft.

Romero will be better than Cruz, but the availability issues will be similar

Not significantly better. Cruz is currently better within the national team.

The Dallas Wings have become more aggressive in pursuit of that pick, offering the third overall pick and the tenth selection in this year’s draft for San Antonio’s top pick. The Stars, meanwhile, have countered with asking for picks three, four and ten. |

As of now, Washington’s offer of their sixth pick in 2017 and first round pick in the loaded 2018 draft has not been enough to entice the Stars, either. |
...I'm a little surprised Mike T would make an offer like that. |

With Delle Donne, Toliver, and Plum he's thinking he has a late first rounder next year, so it kinda makes sense.

If Coffey can become the WNBA version of the Greek Freak then maybe Chicago should draft her #2.

With EDD, Meesseman, Toliver and Plum onboard, I can understand him gambling that they'll be good enough this year for that pick to be pretty low. That said, it's a Megdal piece - take it all with a pinch of salt. Or a fistful. |

But if defense wins Championships, that could be a juicy juicy pick.
Remember Thibault in the 2010 draft? Got a little cocky. Gave his first and second round pick in the Maya draft to MIN for #3 in 2010. This has a very similar feel to it. Feeling good about the upcoming season and overrating a prospect.
What happened to the Sun in 2010? They went to the lottery without a lottery pick. He dodged a bit of the bullet because the Lynx made the wrong pick in Amber Harris, but there will be no bullets to dodge in the 2018 draft. He'd be definitely giving up somebody good... could very well be better than Plum even if the pick is on the bottom side of the round. Don't believe it? Wait and see.
