I'm intrigued by the Sweet 16 freshmen, all of whom have been key to their teams' success: Slocum, Ionescu + other 2 Oregon starters, McCowan, Holmes... who else?

Brooke McCarty.

And i'm definitely looking forward to the McCowan/Osahor matchup Smile

McCarty is a junior (I think?)

Jackie Young has been a key for ND all year. Dangerfield of course. And Charles is starting for Maryland. Cox for Baylor maybe.

Wherever DeShields winds up, San Antonio or Chicago, she's a 3. Pondexter's not going anywhere. She's far enough toward the end of her career that she's worth more at a leader than as trade bait.

Quote:
Ohio State junior guard Kelsey Mitchell said she hasn't yet thought about her future with the Buckeyes as it pertains to the 2017-18 season and does not have a timetable for when she will make a decision to stay or leave Columbus.
The deadline for players to declare for the WNBA Draft is soon after the NCAA national title game, which is set to be played April 2 in Dallas.

A CBSSports.com WNBA Mock Draft compiled by Howard Megdal has Mitchell being selected No. 6 overall in the draft by the Washington Mystics.

I can't see the Mystics and Coach T drafting and keeping (trade) Kelsey Mitchell. I guess Howard Megdal doesn't known much about Coach T and the current Mystics on court personnel.

If that was the case, I'm guessing Kelsey Mitchell for Carolyn Swords might not be the best trade in history.

If that's the only mock draft she's seeing, that might actually be discouraging to her.... and we'll have goofball Megdal to thank for it. Hopefully she knows about Rebkell, but I doubt it.

Remember, Mitchell will have McGuff in her ear, and he managed to talk Amber Harris (one of the least scholastic athletes to come through the Lynx) into staying in school 5 years.

You got your answer on that one. It was a little one sided when the game was decided. Maybe I should move Osahor to 24 in my next update.

Haven't seen much evidence of that. Did the ice cream shop get delayed or scuttled?

Not necessary. I'm not feeling any different about Osahor. One game against Mississippi St where McCowan was hitting everything she tossed up doesn't tell the whole story. Osahor was expected to play 40 minutes, which she did. That's kind of a rare expectation for a big. She had to stay out of foul trouble for 40 minutes. Her offensive output was fine: 17 pts, 11 reb. The game last night doesn't change my view that Osahor is a perfect fit for the McCarville role. Now if you were someone looking to make Osahor a 30 minute starter and you had no confidence she could get into better shape during her career, maybe last night's game gives you pause.

She's not dumb. She knows she's not going to be the 6th pick.

How's she supposed to know? You guys think these players are on top of this stuff? They don't know what to think. Obviously the experts can't even agree where she would go.

She knows more about basketball than us, and everyone I've heard from here agrees that she's not going to be the sixth pick. The word "expert" is used very loosely. Medgal isn't one.

538: How Kelsey Plum Took Over Women's College Basketball

Quote:
On other plays, she looks ready to shoot, but by the time a defender approaches, Plum has already blown by her and is in the lane (she’s averaging 124 points per 100 plays on drives off the pick-and-roll, according to Synergy). She can also suddenly pull up mid-drive, causing her opponent to wave frantically at her shot (she generates 116 points per 100 plays on dribble pull-ups, ranking in the 94th percentile), or immediately attack the interior, bulldozing through opponents and either scoring a basket or getting fouled.

Sounds familiar, but with a deadly three-point shot to boot...

It worked out for Chong in the end. She finally got to play in her senior year.

So, Tennessee's Mercedes Russell said she's returning to the Vols next season. She's a real glutton for punishment. On the other hand, she needs another year of college because she's about 0% ready for the WNBA.
