Are Bonner and McCoughtry really considered guards? I always thought that they were both small forwards. Who makes that decision? Is it arbitrary?

they both are small forwards who can play the shooting guard if needed.

If anyone wants to question the importance of high draft picks, I will note that Dewanna Bonner is incredibly unusual as a No. 6 pick who makes the first team. The last time a non-top 4 draft pick made the First Team was when Deanna Nolan (6), Becky Hammon (undrafted), and Penny Taylor (11) both did in 2007.

Also, with her 12th selection to one of the teams, Tamika Catchings ties Lisa Leslie's record.

Candace Parker, 29, is the second oldest player on the team

I the first and second teams were to play one another, I'd bet on the second to win. Too much replication of skills on the first.

^True but they have size over the second team

Congrats to all
Those picks for first and second team are reasonable choices.

How many times has a player made ALL-WNBA without being an all star in the same year? Seems like there's two this year with Parker and Vandersloot.

How many times has a player that didn't bother to show up for half a season made the All WNBA team?

Three this year. Epiphanny Prince was also not an All Star.

Leaving aside years where there was no ASG, it happened three times prior to this season:

Tamecka Dixon in 2001
Deanna Nolan in 2009
Candace Parker in 2009

Note that in all these cases the player was 2nd team All WNBA

188 points means one voter didn't have Maya on the first OR second team.

Also, Tina Charles had 24 first team ballots and 167 points, meaning she received 15.7 second team ballots.

Ahh, forget about Prince. Thanks!

They need to make these votes public. I want to know who the utter moron is who they are allowing to vote.

It's assuredly plural, as evidenced by having a first team that combined to start one game this season at either guard position. As to Charles, my guess is she actually received 25 first-team and 14 second-team votes...

That was my guess as well.

Perhaps the reason they don't make the votes public is concern about revealing the W staff can't do basic addition.

I still say that calling Bonner a guard on that team is perfectly reasonable. Her and Currie were the 2/3 all season, and Bonner did significantly more ballhandling (and overall was more likely to guard an opposing guard on defense than Currie). Even if they insisted on listing Currie as the 'G' all season and Bonner as the 'F'.

But yeah, the whole thing's a mess, as always. While the NBA's gotten more transparent in recent years, the WNBA's actually giving us even less information than they used to. Along with the typical inability to count and the random making up of positions.

Heck, in the alternate reality that is Mercland, they more often than not listed Bonner as the 4 and Dupree as the 3...

I would have like to see Sloot rewarded for the great season that she had. She deserves a spot on that first team instead of Angel IMO

Angel is on the first team because of her points production and steals production. Sloot has to be satisfied with knowing that she was the most productive point guard in the league this past season.

I love Angel as much as anyone and I have to agree that she should have been no better than second team. I didn't really think she was going to be on the team at all.

Wow!, with you two given your endorsement, I can breath easier. i thought Slooty had an outstanding year. She has improved so much from her first year in the WNBA.
