I usually don't do predictions until the season is over, but this time I'll go out on a limb.

W

1. Lynx
2. LA
3. Mercury
4. Tulsa
5. Storm
6. SA

E

1. Atlanta
2. Chicago
3. Indiana
4, DC
5. NY
6. CT

Playoffs - Atlanta will forfeit after the Atlanta City Council and GA General Assembly pass an ordinance banning Atlanta based sports teams from post season play. Atlanta will then trade its playoff position to NY for the NY lottery pick.

Why can't Tulsa beat Minnesota? Maya will be a tough machup for them, but she is for most teams. Minnesota has a few question marks in the post, Peters, Jones, Gray, Dantas, and Brunson. We will get a good feel for how the teams match up tomorrow night, unless the Lynx go on to add Fowles. I'd also take the back court of Diggins and Sims over Whalen and Augustus.

Diggins averaged 20 pts last season and Sims almost 17 pts i believe and Tulsa still sucked Rolling Eyes So what kind of numbers are you expecting from those 2 in order for you to think that Tulsa gets 2nd place in the west??
Take away their best post player (without Cambage) in Glory Johnson and i see them fighting with the Stars for that 4th spot if they are lucky.
Every matchup was difficult for the Shock because their defense was shit. So no Maya is not their only tough matchup.

This scenario is much too farfetched - the General Assembly is done for the year and doesn't meet again until January. Sure, I guess the governor could call for a special session but that seems implausible... I think the City Council will have to carry this through on its own.

Meanwhile, the Mayor hosted a pep rally for the Hawks yesterday. Apparently it was to give them a boost on the way to the Finals against Golden State. But I see your point on the GA G.A.

other then Atlanta and Phoenix I think Paris/Christmas/Zahui/Pierson is about as good as any other post rotation in the WNBA, If Sims and Diggins can out play Whalen and Augustus then the shock will have a chance. Diggins is like the female version of James Harden to me, expect to see her get to the line alot again this season and sooner then later.

I think Tulsa is going to have some matchup problems defensively with their post rotation myself. You have one player in Paris whose movement is limited. Another in Pierson whose lateral movement is almost non-existent. Another in Zahui who I believe played mostly zone defense in college didn't she? There's bound to be a learning curve not to mention she is kind of big. Whatever Johnson lacked last year, she was still your one post who could guard perimeter-oriented posts.

Honestly I am hard-pressed to find another team out west besides Minnesota that I feel confident projecting a winning record for. LA has a bunch of new faces and a new coach. I figure under Agler they will play D, but there's a bunch of players there I've never seen play before. And they may still have issues with perimeter shooting and spacing the court judging from their preseason starting lineups. Phoenix could be really bad until Griner gets back, and even then with all their new faces who knows? Seattle might not be too bad, but they're going to be integrating lots of new players too. Not to mention their most well-rounded player is a rookie who still has to grow into her body. SAS has some potential, but not sure what 5 gives them a legit chance to win. I love McBride but am not sold she is ready to play the 3 spot on something other than a part-time basis. You can put her there, sure, but will she get rag-dolled by physical 3s as she did a year ago? They had to have gotten Montgomery for a reason. And if Montgomery starts, combining her and Appel leaves you very little scoring. They look to me like a team that is really going to struggle to score at times. Minnesota might only lose 3-5 games this year in part because the rest of the conference appears so weak.

In the East Indiana looks pretty solid and Atlanta will do what they do. Chicago might be good though they have ifs. But at least they have players they know they can likely count on. DC has good balance. Some players like Cloud and Hill could be good but still have to prove it. NY also looks pretty balanced and has players who might be good but have to prove it. Connecticut will likely struggle but they can at least throw lineups out there with 5 players all capable of contributing some scoring.

My picks:

East

1) Atlanta
2) Indiana
3) New York (Could well be lower)
4) Chicago
5) DC (Could well be higher)
6) Connecticut

West

1) Minnesota
2) Los Angeles
3) Phoenix
4) Tulsa
5) Seattle
6) San Antonio

I know somewhere in here I am bound to be way off. Most of the league has radically changed in one year. It's so hard to gauge certain things.

Pierson is standing on 1 leg, Paris will give you small double-double (10-11 pts and 10 reb) but those points are pretty worthless when she probably gives up more points because of her non existent defense. Zahui is a rookie and you cant expect a rookie to perform miracles right away. Christmas is not a post. She will have the toughest defensive job and hit some shots from the perimeter from time to time but that is about it.
