I assume that means that she will be fully healthy by the start of the season?

She should be, given that the injury occurred in August last year. I guess this signing could be taken as a sign that her rehab is on track.

Laughing Funny, but not nice, Linkmaster P. Remember, this is the WNBL. She's a solid rotation player in this league.

Canberra Capitals set to lose WNBL MVP Abby Bishop to Europe

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/basketball/canberra-capitals-set-to-lose-wnbl-mvp-abby-bishop-to-europe-20150426-1mtcr4.html

Quote:
The Canberra Capitals are virtually resigned to losing the WNBL's reigning most valuable player Abby Bishop to the riches of Europe in a major blow to their hopes of ending their finals drought.

But the club has already begin its contingency plan by signing veteran Belgian centre Ann Wauters from French powerhouse Villeneuve to partner superstar Lauren Jackson in the front court.

Fairfax Media understands the Capitals have accepted it is highly unlikely they will lure forward Bishop back next year, but hope to retain her services in coming seasons.

I would think Ann Wauters, at a minimum, could make more money in Europe, but any other player who has had any time in the WNBA as well.

Perhaps you overestimate the number of decent-paying jobs available with European clubs these days...

Ann Wauters at this point in her career probably makes her decisions based on what is best for her family. She is also friends with LJ so it certainly doesnt suprise me.

Are there any decent-paying jobs available in Australia for someone who isn't a Jayco starter?

Lauren Jackson is on a 3 year contract that has paid her around 150K a game so far.

OK, but she is a Jayco starter. I think the majority of WNBL contracts are pretty low.

Yes they are. It is more a lifestyle decision than a financial one that would lead a quality player to the WNBL.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "decent-paying" but if I recall correctly Cassie Harberts played in Australia this past year, and it was one of the higher contract offers she had.

Not all of these girls will be in the WNBL next season although I couldn't find a better thread.

Some good content on the Australian WNBA girls and what to expect this season.
