So, does that open things up for Beard to move to the two guard?

I'm a little surprised by that. I'll bet $1 she turns up pregnant by this time next year.

That and find out that she was only offered the bare minimum salary... Confused There's just no money in being a backup, and it takes a lot of green to start families. I'm going to miss both her and Semeka Randall. Seems like they both left under the same circumstances.

I for one never thought she got enough credit. She was no superstar, but she was a solid player. Used to come up big vs. the Sun, that's for sure. We won't miss not playing against her.

Presumably Stever knows that (hence the smiley above).

If she wants to be a mom soon I hope she gets to be a mom soon. The announcement suggests she's retiring for other reasons ("passion for playing basketball slowly diminished"); and I can think of several players who took one season off, had babies, came back, and proved quite effective that year or (especially) the following year (1.5 to 2.5 years after giving birth)-- Taj, in particular. (I also expect good things from Stacey Lovelace-Tolbert this year.)

If SDS wanted to take a year off, have a baby, and play for the Mystics again, she could have tried to do it. I wonder whether the Mystics soap opera did get to her.

I also wonder whether having something else that she's clearly good at (well, I like her announcing), gets paid decent money to do, and wouldn't have to work out all the time in order to keep doing after giving birth (IF she wants kids, which we don't know at all) really affected the calculus here. SDS played basketball and announced; Taj and SLT play basketball and play basketball.

Again, though, can't know what's inside her head. I liked her game, think she could have done better on a team that didn't ask her to do quite as much, and wish her well as an analyst.

OOPS! Embarassed

Sorry, just didn't want all the VeProf bashing to start appearing on this board. It gets old. Rolling Eyes

Will this make way for Currie, if she comes out and we can get her??

Hmm, she's retiring just when the W is about to announce the new commissioner. Coincidence?

I think Mystics fans need to understand that if Mo Currie comes out this year, she just will not be available at #6. Comets will need a scorer if Sheryl is gone, and Mo Currie would fit beautifully. Beyond that, I highly doubt that Charlotte, Indiana, Merc, and SA are all going to pass on this Player of the Year candidate before Houston and Washington. I think the Mo Currie dreams will have to be postponed til next year where the Mystics will need to tank their season and get the #1 pick just to have a shot... oh and pray she doesn't come out this year.

Mo is a top 3 pick in whichever draft she comes out in. Please name 5 people graduating the next two years better than her.

You know, after watching Mo Currie play the last few games, I'm not sure she's really whats missing on the Mystics. SDS retiring has me wondering what the Mystics will eventually look like come the start of the season. If Meek sits out and Murriel is signed elsewhere OUCH! We may be drafting right behind Chicago next year!

Please no one say anything to pilight about Ann Meyers or Nancy Lieberman, we don't need to even entertain thoughts of those two as commissioner.

Someone get Stern on the phone...that is the most sane name I have heard offered during this waiting game...would complement Renee Brown nicely.

I did send in a resume, but I never heard anything back. At least this way I have the right to complain about who they choose.

No, that would be compliment, with an "i" in the middle.

Wow...two degrees and a Masters Thesis later and I still wrote something in proper English grammar!

P - they could have at least had the courtesy of sending you a "Thanks, but no thanks" letter. What is wrong with professional organizations? I got a nice rejection e-mail from the Lynx this year after they had hired someone for the marketing position I applied for...I was impressed. It wasn't as formal as one of my law school rejection letters, but it was a lot kinder.

What ever happened to common courtesy?

Her dubious work ethic didn't help.

Oh well, my Simone Edwards for SDS trade is no longer doable. How about Simone Edwards for Coco Miller? Laughing

I bet the Mystics are really rueing that pick now.

Hell of a draft huh? SDS and Asjha? Now it's Tamicha Jackson. Wonder how Nikki T. looks now?
