They save a few months salary and demote him, and they end up being able to keep him anyway. Smile Congrats to Liberty fans.

I been following pro sports for a long time and I have never witnessed an organization doing this before. Shocked

Check my above statement. The Yankees did do this a million times with Billy Martin! Laughing Laughing

Bizarre. Makes them look ridiculous, but I guess if they went out and looked for a head coach and eventually decided that the best available option was the guy they just dumped, then credit to them for sucking it up and re-hiring him however it looks.

Yeah! Totally agree with the props due an org for reversing what they see is a mistake, even if there is some perception of foolishness. Bobby stepping out of the shower, and all that. All organizations/teams should be willing to just realize they've gone an ill-advised direction and just forget it. They should have done it after Alien 3 (as cool as some of that movie was). But I guess I can't have everything. Sad Wink

(Phone rings at Laimbeer residence)

BILL: Yeah?

LIBS: Hey Bill, this is the New York Liberty. We're still looking for a new head coach. Do you know anyone who would want the job?

BILL: Uh...as a matter of fact, I do....

At least the Yankees would hire someone else for awhile, and Billy Martin would get other jobs. This is just an unexplained gap with no games missed.

Maybe they were arguing about strategy for 2015 -- to tank or not to tank. Given what the Knicks are doing, my guess is tank.

Agler propbably rejected a contract offer from the liberty in favor of the sparks.I hope the experiment with cappie at pg is over.Bill was given a second chance because he never shitted on Dolan or the liberty.

They probably just now noticed they didn't re-sign him.

When They fired Laimbeer, I said that NY would have a difficult time finding anyone who would leave their current job to take this one, and I was right... Idea

This organization just keeps getting more and more laughable... Just like the Knicks! Exclamation Laughing

it will be a genius move looking back to how they 'tanked' in 15 and got Stewart.

in one sense I laugh yet in another I find it sad that the pool of good candidates for coaching in the WNBA and whom would take the position is the size of a kiddie pool

Also possible he got cheaper. They turned down an option year for 2015 which was part of the original contract - maybe this time he agreed to sign for a lower figure.

It would be good for the league if someone who coached in the WNBA went back to college or on to the NBA and became wildly successful.

The closest thing to a success-story in that vein--that I can think of right now--is Suzie McConnell-Serio.

The as did this with ken macha once....only time ive seen it.

This scares me as a lib fan....clear cut cost cutting move...all you can do now is shpw up and give dolan enough revenue...

As for tanking....not sure think the opposite..dolan wants revenue not empty seats fron a bad team.....just my gut but im worried past this season....very worried

All ill say here but the 4 from the 2+2 dont look good for the libs long term

Also if this was just a renegotiation why say he was let go in the first place just negotiate in quiet and if they stall THEN cut ties

Like someone already said, this is better than them being too proud to admit they goofed and hiring someone with no clue.

I like Bill as a coach and was quite perturbed when they let him go. So for him to be back is fine with me. Assuming of course he can actually make the team better.

But it is the strangest freaking story I can remember ever coming across.
