With Lovewomensbasketball on hiatus, I thought I would try to fill in a bit. I have written updates on Duke alums, both men and women playing overseas, for several years now.

No. I will aim to do South Korea once a week, which will probably be after Monday's game this week covering Wednesday through Monday.

I was going to pass on China since there is already a thread on it with other people giving some updates. I simply am not going to have enough time to do as many leagues as Janis did, so I am going to try and pick and choose a few to start and maybe add in a few over time.

No offense, but it's really pretty easy to find results and stats for the Euroleague and Eurocup games. The domestic league games are the challenge. And Eurobasket.com is INCREDIBLY inaccurate. In order to follow the Russian League I have to try and translate Russian sites and sometimes that doesn't even work very well.

It certainly is when you can come here and see it all gathered together and summarised in one place, yes, I agree!
No offense, but thanks, awhom111.

thank you for the "round up".
As an employed person I find having it all in one place extremely helpful!

Sorry, it's just a lot of effort when all you need is this:
http://www.fibaeurope.com/euroleaguewomen/

and this:
http://www.fibaeurope.com/cid_KNce8jInH7Qj1EsyH5rjn2.compID_Rn2Om4j3HOcXtTFwJWFsh3.html

Put them on your quick links. It's simple. There's even a smart phone app for it. All easier than searching for a thread on a WNBA forum.

While the effort is appreciated, my point was that the beauty of lovewomensbasketball is that it covered the domestic leagues which are a lot harder to find info for. Covering the FIBA competitions is not a substitute for that. But if it's helpful to others, that's cool, keep posting. But I personally will be going to the sites above for the FIBA updates.

Huh, I never said I wasn't going to cover domestic leagues? I was just pointing out that I did not have time to do the 16 or so that Janis did so I will have to prioritize what I can do. Kind of hard to provide stats on games that haven't happened yet (this weekend).

This week I have South Korea, Turkey, France, Italy, and Israel and I will work from there after seeing how much time it takes. China and Australia I will not do since they already get some coverage here and Spain gets solid coverage on SwishAppeal so that will move to the back of the list too.

South Korea:
I always like to look at the minutes splits because both foreign players cannot be on the court at the same time.

This is wonderful ... thank you.

A comment: Looking at the high scorers, the difference between the WNBA and the foreign domestic leagues is pretty stark -- and leads me to believe that stats from those leagues don't really tell us much about how a player might do in the W.

And it also makes it more clear to me why there aren't more foreign players in the WNBA -- if Lauren Ervin (I'm assuming it's her) can go for 23 and 7 and not get a sniff in America, why would a European make the trip for minimal money, and why would a team want her to? (That's not to say there aren't overseas players who could do very well in the WNBA, just that there aren't very many of them.)

Yes, that is Lauren Ervin.

It does depend a little on the team and the league though. The big Turkish clubs tend to gobble up all the best Turkish players. That leaves the rest of the teams relying on their maximum of five foreign players (two non-Europeans plus two European non-Turkish plus one naturalized Turkish) to do everything. That's what creates situations like Lindsey Harding and Marissa Coleman going into every game expecting to play all 40 minutes.

All that said, the number of impact foreigners outside of the WNBA who have never been to training camp or played a few games is pretty small.
