so I didn't put "Saying something nice about WNBA marketing" is the subject line.

I think the WNBA has done a great job thinking outside the sports' biz box by playing so many daytime games. Maybe they could have done it sooner, but the early afternoon games get lots of folks in seats, buying cokes and such, and have to make sponsors happy.

There are a lot of leagues that just do what they do, and hope the people will come, but this summer, the WNBA has put itself in a position to increase crowds by doing the entertainment unthinkable: Putting the product out there during the day in the middle of the week. (Baseball does it primarily because of a union deal requiring permission to play a night game on the day a team leaves for a city in which they play a game the next day.)

So congrats, whoever pushed this idea ...

I certainly appreciate the Sunday afternoon games that the Liberty are starting at 2 pm or 3 pm instead of 4 pm. It makes it much easier to get home and prepare for work the next day.
