Since the league doesn't seem to be doing much in terms of finding ways to both advertise themselves AND make money from it in the off-season, what are some possible ways do you think they could make money and keep the W in the public eye? What do Euroleague and other foreign leagues do in the off-season to generate revenue? |

As I understand it, for the most part EuroLeague teams not only don't make any money, they don't care that much about revenue. Sure, if there were an easy way to make a million, they'd do it, but I would suspect there's less interest, relatively speaking, in women's basketball in Europe than in America.

That's curious because I was under the impression that foreign league women's teams pay more than the W. If so, the money has to come from somewhere. |

Seems like whatever they do would have to have a solid connection with basketball to keep it germane to the league. |

Because of the star power with in 2013 class, the W was able to piggy back off of the anticipation of Griner. The anticipation was steady all throughout the collegiate season. But, I'm not sure if they can do that every year because the off season is so long, unless another transformational player pops up again.

The structure of European sports is completely different than ours, and the income is generated, in many cases, by youth programs that are fueled by success of the top teams, and in other cases, by wealthy owners. (At one time, a Russian team (Spartak, I think) was paying millions of dollars in salaries and didn't even charge admission to games.)
And over time, some leagues start paying more, and others less. There was a time when Russia didn't pay much, and France and Spain did; now, again as I understand it, France and Spain have fallen back, and Russia is where the money is.
