I like Voepel's mock for tonight except I just don't think Schimmel is a Dunn/Fever type of player. |
which is why I had Hartley going there.

Anyone think Shoni will still be there at 11 & the Sun will take her for on court skills but also off court (she's got a big native american/first nations fanbase)

really don't think she will be there. But yes the native american aspect would be interesting for the casino.

Maybe, but she's from a different tribe at the other end of the continent so it might not play out they way they want.

Shoni is the only player that has a fanbase that travels all across the country (and resides in many parts of the country) that comes to see her play. How big that is, I don't know, but at the Louisville - UConn game which had a huge crowd, the announcers gave credit to Native American Appreciation night. She could be the only players that really adds to attendance figures. If she can't cut it or never plays, of course, that may be short lived.

That's a good point that I had not considered--different tribes & potential strife b/twn tribes.

I doubt it will have any bearing on the draft, but Shoni's Native American fanbase really spans across all tribes across the country. She and Jude spoke at reservations around the country over the summer. Wherever they played this year, there were local native fans, and some that traveled, waiting for autographs. I expect that will continue wherever she goes.

I think I will be happy as long as we don't select Simmons or Shoni. I honestly don't have any idea what is gonna happen tonight (meaning where the players will be selected.) Maybe I will end up making my mock sometime later today, who knows... my biology exam is calling my name, but the draft is on my mind |
There's zero chance the Lynx are drafting a guard, and if they did, I'll be screaming "WHOA!" louder than Bill Simmons did when Anthony Bennett was drafted. |
Don't see why not. They've got a starting five, one post backup and one perimeter backup. Everyone else on the roster is utterly replaceable or beat-out-able. Or is good enough to just keep rolling with if no one else comes along. Works both ways.
They can basically draft whoever they like - classic BPA. |

Utah players
Quote: |
According to Levrets, Plouffe could be taken as high as the top 10, but might go as low as 23, and maybe even drop out of the first round. Plouffe’s countrywoman Kim Smith is the last Utah player to be taken in the first round, as she was selected 13th in the 2006 draft by the Sacramento Monarchs. And like Smith, Plouffe offers myriad skills, all wrapped in a 6-foot-4 body. |
The way they word this, I think they mistakenly think the first round is to #24.
Quote: |
This year will be a rarity for the state, with BYU’s Jennifer Hamson also expected to be drafted. Plouffe — for her part — said sleeping will be difficult in the days leading up to the draft. She may not have started playing basketball with the goal of the WNBA in mind. But when she realized a pro basketball career is attainable, she pursued it relentlessly.
And now, she’s right on the cusp. |
