“I think for McBride to drop to five, someone would have to be holding a lucky rabbit’s foot,” Peck said.

Keep in mind this is Peck's opinion, who thinks Sims should be #1.

Quote:
She said “it would be cool” to end up in Indianapolis because she would near her sister, Karlee, a freshman on the Indiana University women’s basketball team. Otherwise, McBride said, she is indifferent to her destination.

Achonwa missed the national title game because of a knee injury late in Notre Dame’s regional final against Baylor. New York Liberty coach Bill Laimbeer speculated that could cause her to drop several slots in the draft, which could leave her for the Fever at No. 9. Achonwa wouldn’t be able to play until 2015.

“Achonwa could very easily go in the late first round,” Dunn said.

Do you get the feeling by "late first round" Dunn is talking later than #9?

“You don’t have a [Brittney] Griner or [Elena] Delle Donne in this draft, but you have throughout the first round really good players,” Mystics second-year coach and GM Mike Thibault said. “I think the consensus is pretty sure that in either order, one or two, it’s going to be Ogwumike and Sims just depending on what Connecticut decides is best for them.”

Thibault indicated the Mystics’ strategy is to choose the best player available rather than drafting for need.

“I don’t know that the draft pick will make an impact as far as taking us to the next level,” Thibault said. “I think it gives us depth. I think more than that we need the players that we currently have to be improved from a year ago.”

-Antonelli has been high on Gatling all season.

-She says Schimmel has the most upside.

Is she higher on Gatling than Howard? I'm surprised you posted this. Smile

Quote:
Three steals of the draft

16. Tyaunna Marshall, Georgia Tech
Has a mid-range jumper that is a killer, scored over 2,000 points in college with only making 20 3-pointers and with just a 61 free throw pct.; similar to Alison Hightower in size and athleticism; a strong defender and pro body for a guard; not a 3-point threat but excellent off the bounce; a young Shavonte Zellous.

17. Tiffany Bias, Oklahoma State
Point guard that defends and can run a team; love her work ethic and desire to be good; will develop quickly in the pro style which is not what she played in college; good decision-maker in transition.

18. Asia Taylor, Louisville
6’1, long and athletic, has 3-point range, guards multiple players from 1-4; good toughness and a pro--ready body; her 3-point range is excellent.

I like all three of these players. Doubtful any one of them goes 1st round. But all three should be chosen early-mid second round.

Why? lol Rolling Eyes

And as far as draftees not invited, I think Marshall may have a good chance to go in the first round. She can add some of that toughness, grit, and perimeter defense Pokey mentioned.

She is either confusing Asia Taylor with Nita Slaughter or has invented some hybrid of the two (that would be cool). Taylor is not a 3-point shooter.

What I find so strange is generally how much agreement there is on not only who are the top 5 are but then who should be the next seven (but here in varying order) in the 2014 draft.

Compared to some years, it is not a bad group.

As for 2015, anybody started to look at that list? RebKell needs to start that thread by Tuesday! I got one word - weak.

Elizabeth Williams, Duke
Isabelle Harrison, Tennessee
Ariel Massengale, Tennessee
Sharane Campell, Oklahoma
Samantha Logic, Iowa
Melissa Dixon, Iowa
Bethany Doolittle, Iowa
Rachel Banham, Minnesota
Sara Hammond, Louisville

I can't think of anyone else. Not that many big names.

You forgot Reshanda Gray, lottery pick. Laimbeer wants to draft her RIGHT NOW.

Dixon and Campbell....are you sure?

How about Brittany Boyd, Jazmine Davis?

I guess I'm feeling PAC-12 next year.

I like Chastity Gooch but she's probably not a first rounder.

Hasina Muhammad, but she needs to get stronger...and they never do.

Totally forgot about Boyd and Gray. I don't think Dixon is a first rounder, but she averages double digits and is great behind the arc. If she were to work on creating her own shot a little more, she'd be even better. Only knock on her is that she's short, I think 5'7. Campbell can be pretty good imo. She was the energy player for OU, we'll see how she is when she's perhaps the first option next season.

2015:

Rachel Banham
Brittany Boyd
Ariel Massengale
Amber Orrange
Jennifer O'Neil
Samantha Logic
Jasmine Davis

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis
Crystal Bradford
Cierra Burdick
DeArica Hamby
Bria Goss
Sydney Wallace
Laurin Mincy
Raven Ferguson

Elizabeth Williams
Reshanda Gray
Isabelle Harrison
Kiah Stokes
Sarah Hammond

Super weak. I think Harrison and Gray will compete for the #1 overall pick.

I think KML is number one easily, no question in my mind.
I like Banham's shooting and Logic is pretty good but other than that, WEAK.
2014 is not a year to miss the playoffs!!

If Tulsa wins the 2015 WNBA Draft Lottery, would that be considered trolling?

A healthy KML is easily the #1 pick.

Gray, Williams and Harrison are probably the next 3 picks (for now).

Everyone has Massangale but no Orrange? I am much more impressed by Amber Orrange. She looked real good in the NCAA tournament against quality teams. Had 18 against Penn State, 14 against North Carolina, and 16 against UConn (not to mention she had 22 in the first meeting against UConn).

I think she's quite underrated, in relation to other 2015 guard. Just a real steady, smart guard. 2.9 ATO, 47% from the field, has shown to make big plays for Stanford. I don't know if she'll make the league (need to improve her 3pt shot), but I like her game. If she can add a 3pt shot (she shot 39% last year and 34% this year), so she can shoot it some and show the consistency she does against quality teams, she could be an All-American.
