What do you think of this?

"If Chairman Mao had been truly prescient, he would have located a little girl in Sichuan Province named Jung Chang and "mie jiuzu"- killed her and wiped out all her relatives to the ninth degree. But instead that girl grew up, moved to Britain and has now written a biography of Mao that will help destroy his reputation forever. Based on a decade of meticulous interviews and archival research, this magnificent biography methodically demolishes every pillar of Mao's claim to sympathy or legitimacy."

'Mao': The Real Mao

I'll take a look at the article. As I've said before, my interest in Mao isn't his dirty laundry, or even his particular political praxis, but rather his theory. He was the first major Marxist theorist not of European descent, and for that reason he was hugely influential in a number of important non-white socialist movements around the world, including the Black Panther Party in the U.S. He was also an important theoretical support for the revolutionary student movements of 1968 -- in France, in particular.

Mao fucked up and killed a lot of people, but that doesn't make his theory wrong, or bad, murderous. Of course, the people who would level an off-the-cuff critique of him probably have never read a single complete page of his work... and probably never will.

A cynical person would suggest that Ms Chang is merely pandering to Western fears about Maoist China in order to make a buck.

I've read her bio of her family "Wild Swans" which was quite interesting and worth reading but I don't view this piece of work as being very credible at all. I'm sure it will get the right groups of white people excited though.
