wouldn't batteast - or anyone, for that matter - be wasted in houston if chance keeps saying "just give the ball to swoopes and tina"??? isn't this what's wrong in houston (apart from cannibalizing point guards), that van won't change his tune even though he knows there are deficits in his starting lineup? or do folks think he's finally gonna allow the workload to be shared?

I think that has sorta been the big question lately. The answer almost clearly tends towards the Comets getting deeper into the black hole that they are presently in, but the recent changes in personell hopefully impact the organization up to the team and the coach. It's time to do something new. It's time to work towards being a winning team again.

Cappie is not guaranteed to come out.

Also, Harding will have two years of eligibility left...she is in the Class of 2007.

unless Cappie turns it around, there's no way she's going at number 1. Too high risk, with Irvin, McCarville, Batteast and Weicker around as less risk players.

There's a very good chance she won't. The extra year at RU would give her a chance to not only get better, but repair her somewhat overblown reputation. Her "issues" are really not that serious especially when you consider some of the other issues RU has had the past couple of years and it probably won't be an issue in the pros. If we went through every player's college closet, we'd find way more dirt in some of our favorites than we would in Cappie's.

OTOH, having her as a number 1 pick this year if she comes out isn't as obscene to me as it seems to be to others. First of all, Cappie's that good. Remember, she's on a short leash in Stringer's system. Given a bit more freedom in the pros along with the teachings and maturity Stringer has provided, she's poised to be a top guard in the WNBA. Second, Charlotte does not want to end up like NY, squandering potential heirs and ending up clueless and point guardless once Dawn no longer plays at such a high level and/or leaves. Dawn would be the perfect player for Cappie to learn from on and off the court, not to mention Dawn's connection with Stringer. Still, I'd be surprised if Cappie came out this year. 38k isn't exactly a pot of gold. Especially when it will still be there in 2006.

Your mock draft made the paper in Minnesota:

Keegan's big time, but I hope the Comets stay away from drafting anyone in the frontcourt, since Van won't give them any playing time. The need in the backcourt is so great that Van wish list should just read guards...

1. Cappie
2. Currie (if coming out, although HIGHLY DOUBT SHE WOULD EVER FALL TO FIVE)
3. Wecker
4. White or Wright (I'm not sure who has the upper hand. White is a superior offensive player, but Wright is probably the best defender in the nation).

You would think the MN paper would have the decency to post a platypus picture. Smile

Congrats, Keegs!

Lyttle would not be choice. Reason will become clearer in next few days.

It must be a trade. None of the FA posts are good enough to mitigate a draft need. Unless SFO thinks he can motivate Tiff Johnson, that is...

Number 00 can only be motivated by a spiral sliced ham on the back of a pick up truck going 30 miles an hour...hopefully in a direction OUT of the City Limits of Houston, TX.

Could he have offered more to Janell Burse than Seattle was prepared to match?

Is there a period (I have 10 days in my head) where the player must wait to sign to see if the offer is matched?

Teams have 10 days to match offers to RFAs. I'm not sure Burse would make me forget drafting a post either.

Nevermind, that still doesn't help. Trying to find a way to move up and get Irvin/Janell... gotta use that #7 and I would think either Iciss or Chandi.

Hmm what about Tari Phillips? Now that's a scary thought!

Ok so she's not a backup post taller than 6'4" but she's apparently not too bad in the post department Wink

And now the imagination has ran away from me... very far away...

Chantelle Anderson and Sacramento's 1st rounder to Detroit
Chandi Jones and the #7 pick to Houston
Sheryl Swoopes to Sacramento

This way Sheryl avoids LA, Detroit gets a big post backup with enough cap room to add a FA in the backcourt like Kedra and still have a shot at a guard at the end of the first round (Jess Strom?). Chandi goes back to Houston, who picks up some youth and another pick in the first seven to possibly add even more talented youth. Janeth plays the 3, Chandi the 2, check on Sheila at the one, draft a post like Lyttle and a guard in the top 7, and see where this takes us... One can dream...

Basically, Sac still has cap issues, but Sheryl, Yo and Company will have a legitimate shot at a title. Either DeMya or Tangela will need to go, and their bench would almost have to become rookies and FAs. Lawson may still be able to fit, and Brunson's role would have to be largely expanded. But come on, who would want to play against this lineup:

Ticha, Sheryl, DeMya, Brunson, Yo with Lawson off the bench OR
Ticha, Lawson, Sheryl, Tangela, Yo with Brunson off the bench. This pretty much squeezes out Edna for cap reasons, but I am sure they would be able to find some cheap help somewhere to fill up the pine. It's not like there would be too many minutes to distribute there...

No, they don't. See my Full Court Press article on this (comes out tomorrow).
