Didn't get to see the game. Daggone work! But, I'll take everyone's word for it that Asjha finally earned her spot on the squad. Go Asjha! So, now we just have Swin who doesn't seem to belong. Prove me wrong!

It might have been sarcasm. She had:
0 pts (0-0), 0 reb, 1 ast, 1 to, 1 stl, 1 blk in 9:48

Great Job Team USA!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Australia played their hearts out, but we just had too many weapons in the end!!!! LJ is a great player....go Australia---beat Russia!!!!

Love the toughness of Team USA. No matter who played, they gave it their all, it wasn't perfect, but a win is a win!!!

Now it's onto the Gold Medal game vs France on Sat. at 4pm.

Go Team USA, bring home that GOLD!!!! Very Happy

I doubt it. Her defense was awesome in the 2nd half. Not everyone has to score to prove their worth.

Even if this game turns into a blowout at the end. I love the Opals effort and how they played so far.

Me too. We are finally playing smart and playing hard. That's all I can ask for.
Where was this against France? Sad

Me three. I feel very proud of them right now. Very Happy

I'll add to that - given it did turn into a blow out. Thoroughly enjoyed the game, wasn't as cringe-worthy as I thought it was going to be. Hopefully they can keep up the good play for bronze.

Finally, CP has played just awful defense twice against Cambage. All that talent and she's never bothered to defend, which is now catching up to her.

This isn't a fair criticism without mentioning that Parker is only on her because Cambage would have 30 by now had Charles been left out there...

In defense of both Charles and Parker, Cambage has about 4-5 inches over both of them, in addition to apparently having the game of her life.

Yeah but when Cambage is beating them to the otherside and getting great position right under the basket that speaks volumes. Charles (and Jones) did a better job in 2nd half

I kinda like the idea of an Olympics HORSE contest, and maybe 3 pt shooting too.

Once again, I don't think anyone (with half a brain) would say Asjha is a bad player. The whole discussion earlier was whether or not she (and Swin) were actually the #10 & #11 best US players - ie would someone(s) else have been better. That Asjha had a somewhat decent contribution really doesn't say anything about that whole other conversation. Swin is also not a terrible player but even if she had a decent game, it still wouldn't prove or disprove anything about who is the best #10 & #11 player. At this point, though I don't know why anyone is still beating the dead horse...they're there and congrats to all of them for moving on to the gold medal game.

It is perhaps worth noting that stats don't tell the whole story

at the half segment, leslie said parker was not getting low enough to slide with liz, but was standing straight up and not able to move well. and in case you missed it, leslie also said she was ready to put on a uniform to help the u.s. team. Laughing

evidently, the male announcer didn't know that the loser of this game goes on to the bronze medal game: he said this was the last game for the opals. and ever on the ball, amd didn't correct him. but then again, maybe she thought the same thing. Wink

Angel and Whalen need more playing time. USA seemed to do so much better when Whalen is in the game. And as much as Angel irritates me during a WNBA season, she is having a great tournament and not getting enough minutes.

I assumed people who might be interested watched the game and could see the difference Jones made.

Jones definitely made a difference in the game. But Whalen and Augustus saved the day.

I didn't see the game live, had to watch the replay.

It was a beautiful basketball game.

Team Australia came to play. Team USA came to play.

TEAM USA wins. All 12 players showed up. Sue Bird, Lindsay Whalen, when the bell rings, these kids can play.

Which is exactly why I don't really care about team sports in the Olympics. LJ had a legitimate claim as the best player in the world for the past two Olympics (04 and 0Cool and she had no chance to win a gold medal because of the country she was born in.

Just silly, IMO.

This conversation ain't over, sweet heart.
