As I continue watching it as of now, I'm going to go on record as saying this is the WORST opening ceramonies I've ever seen.

I am with you on it being the WORST opening ceremony I've seen yet.

China really spoiled us, there were so many fantastic moments and sights. This is just blah!

Yes to this.
London was barely tolerable.

i'm watching it now, and it's just . . . bizarre.

china's spectacle was so memorable, it would be hard to top. greece's was pretty awesome, too. but i'm pretty damned sure the brasilians will show the world why it owns carnaval.

this is . . . i just dunno.

Good grief, the local NBC news station just came on with a news update, and forcasted the current [London] weather for "the rest of the Opening Ceremonies".

Embarassed Rolling Eyes Wink

Switched channel to the Canadian channel with better commentators and coverage. And the Canadian commentators mentioned LJ's name and said "women's basketball superstar Lauren Jackson as the flag bearer".

Way to go Canada. They didnt even say her name on NBC. The Canadian broadcast is a little behind.

Can we rank hottest countries? Italy is my personal fave. Gotta give a shout out to Brazil, Denmark, and Latvia.

Also, the flag bearer from Afghanistan was hot. A warzone never looked SO good. Shocked

The woman flag bearer from Qatar was dressed like Voldemort. Could've jazzed up her duds a bit, no? At least it was a woman.

Felt bad that my people - the Armenians - only had one athlete. Clearly we're not a team sport people.

I have no doubt this will go down as the worst opening ceremony. Is it just me, or is there no flow to what I'm seeing?

And don't get me started on Matt and Meredith. Rolling Eyes

Very disappointing.

if the brasilians can do this - every year, on a single avenue - can you imagine what they'll do on an olympian stage? (yes, i can!)

2016 olympics or bust!

The Olympics/NBC has been very quick to remove any personally-shot YouTube footage of the games.. Confused

Random observations: Yes, we got to see Lebron more than anyone USA athlete and did not see many other athletes that we could identify.

The ceremonies did improve. Somehow I DOUBT that being PC kept Great Britain from having a more entertaining opening ceremony.

If PC is going to be the an element, I can see Brazil having problems having anything but a blah ceremony.

Finally, interesting that one of the individuals carrying the flag was an environmentalist. Wondering what she thought of 7 BILLION pieces of paper being released over the stadium. Shocked

That was Marina Silva, Green Party, born and raised in the Rainforest. Can't imagine her being too happy about that. And London was branding itself as the most envioronmentally-conscious Olympics to date...yikes.

Well, thank goodness regarding Brazil's upcoming Olympic Ceremonies.

Did not KNOW it was recycled. Makes ALL the difference in the world. Hope Marina Silva realized that before it happened, would not want to have put a damper on her experience.

I didn't like the '07 Pan-Am opening ceremony, so they definitely have to do better than that. Of course the Olympics is a different ball-game, but I'd hate for the world to keep thinking we walk around half naked and live in the rainforest or the beach. Really, if they can stay clear of stereotyping the heck out of it, I'd appreciate it. No Carnaval-themed stuff would be a good place to start.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I thought London did a good job. Not quite as visually stunning as Beijing and definitely PC, but it was good. Too bad they forgot to tell the Queen that was not a school parade or part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Well does the Queen really need a lesson on British history? Question

I'd be bored too.

It's similar to how I'm not moved by the Time Life recap of all the overplayed songs of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Razz
