MSNBC begins showing women's soccer tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM CST. Games will be on throughout the day.
Does anyone have a schedule for soccer?

Forgive my ignorance, I don't follow Soccer, but is France is strong opponent?

They're a good team without being great. Solidly part of the group below what you might call the elite (Germany, USA, Brazil).

The US beat them 3-1 in the semi-final of the World Cup last year, but needed two fairly late goals to pull that off.

France is a strong team, they finished 4th in the 2011 World Cup, losing to the USA 3-1 in the semi-finals and Sweden 2-1 in the 3rd place game. This should be a good match-up, and far from a guaranteed win for the USA, although they will be the favorites to win.

thanks for the scouting reports! Smile

I brought my iPad to office this morning; and I've got the NBC app loaded. So I'm planning to catch some of the game while at work today.

Waiting for the ball to trickle into her area so she could pick it up. Only it didn't get there in time, so she ended up in a mess.

Shame to see so many empty seats for the very first event. But then, a 75,000 capacity stadium for women's soccer may not have been the best choice to open with.

Pardon my ignorance but why is Australia no longer apart of Oceania?

They were tired of the complete lack of competition in Oceania, so petitioned FIFA to 'move' to Asia. Primarily the men's team who wanted to switch, of course, but as it's the association which switches, the women went as well.

USA V France

France went up 2-0 on two quick goals, the USA came back with a header from Wombach off a long free kick, and then a turn around leg off the turf bounce. 2-2 at the half.
Shocked

I swear I walked into the room and heard the announcer say, "watch for the header from Wambach off the corner kick" and wham, it happened! I had to check to make sure the game was live.

I know! I was thinking "I wonder what is says about Wambach on the scouting report"? Because it must not say to try to take away the header because she seemingly gets it at will.

Interesting. Thanks. It's so weird how it varies from sport to sport. In basketball, they seem rather content in Oceania. In Volleyball, they are grouped with Asia. Not really consistent across the board.

Then *after* the move, Oceania gets one qualification spot to the World Cup (and presumably Olympics). Oceania used to have to qualify against last eliminated from other groups. Better overall for the competition though.

Awesome win, Cristiane is now the top scorer in women's soccer history in the Olympics (granted, not a very long one).

Couple of outstanding goals from Morocco in their game against Honduras earlier today (in the men's tournament). Check out the highlights if you can find them in your region.

Big upset on the cards right now, with Japan 1-0 up on Spain at halftime (and Spain down to 10 men).

seems the women's north korean team refused to take the field for an hour cuz of a flag snafu: the south korean flag was being flown instead of their's for their match.
