seems the women's north korean team refused to take the field for an hour cuz of a flag snafu: the south korean flag was being flown instead of their's for their match. |
It wasn't exactly flown - the South Korean flag was next to the pictures of the team members on a video package on the big screen. Story's here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-18991619
I'm sure it was a complete accident. Just unfortunate that they made the mistake with one of the worst pairs of countries it could possibly have been made with. |

Didn't they also mess up the South African national anthem the other day at some hockey event? Getting your stuff mixed up is always an accident, but such a gaffe that some people are not willing to forgive. Reminds me of when they played the National Flag Anthem before our game against Spain in the '86 World Cup. The boos were raining down and the players were mortally embarrassed. The anthem mix up is bad, but not as bad as a flag mix up.

Yeah, they played an old apartheid anthem for South Africa at a preparation hockey event. It's also just been pointed out that Joe Allen is listed as 'English' in the official programme (he's Welsh - different country, both part of Great Britain). Silly screw ups, but things that shouldn't be happening. |

Apparently, even when she's typing, Solo can't keep her 'mouth' shut. The woman seems to feel the need to talk about everything. And considering she absolutely should've saved the first French goal in the US's opening game, and probably shouldve done better for the second, maybe she should stop talking and go practice. |

unless there's some major upsets tomorrow, the quarterfinals should set-up as follows:
Brazil vs. Canada
United States vs. Cameroon/New Zealand(3rd in group E)
Sweden vs. France
Japan vs. Great Britian
*North Korea will likely finish in 3rd in group G, but there goal diff. will likely be larger than the third place finishers in group E & F(Cameroon/New Zealand & Canada).

Solo comes across as an entitled BITCH. Keep your mouth shut and play, because you don't know as much as you think you do.
Chastain (and her teammates) paved the way for you to get the attention you receive. SHOW RESPECT!

Hope needs to learn she may be the best goalkeeper now, but she wasn't the first and she's not going to be the last.
All Chastain said was Solo didn't have to do much during the game, sure she said it alot, but Hope needs to learn to SHUT UP
Sometimes it's better to just bite your tngue. |

Solo better watch out b/c she hasn't played mistake free soccer this tournament. She's made some uncharacteristic mistakes in both games. I'm not talking about the 2 goals France scored, either. The spotlight might not be so friendly if she really f---s up.
Hope has a book due to release right after the Olympics end. She's promoting herself as usual. Getting people to check her twitter feed gets more eyeballs to news about her book.

FIFA? Really? I know they're the governing body, but this is not a FIFA competition. Will she be able to play in a FIFA game then? Weird stuff.

If Colombia does not advance then she'll serve the 2nd match ban during the next FIFA competition.

Wow, great job by GB!
The crowd seems to be great for them. Glad to see it.

I don't mind Hope standing up for her teammates. We criticize commentators all the time around here. Rarely with as much experience as Hope has. I say, good for her, standing up for a teammate. You don't have to be respectful of people not paying you respect. |
Except, of course, that the color commentator didn't say anything out of the ordinary or disrespectful or harsh. Pretty boilerplate.
Awesome result for the GB team in front of a massive crowd. Hope this gets women's soccer in Scotland, England, Wales some much needed attention & increased support.

It was amazing. 70,000 people for women's football. Unreal. You know how people bitch about WNBA attendance? Well, top division women's football in England gets a couple of hundred people if they're lucky for each game. Two-digit attendances aren't unknown. This country, despite being utterly in love with football, does not give the tiniest toss about the women's game.
And I just watched GB (essentially England) beat Brazil with 70,000 people screaming along beside me. Incredible.
Unfortunately, now we're in the same half of the draw as the US... |
