Through the first day, I'd rate the Olympic basketball channel as a real success. What a treat to be able to watch six international games in one day, all in HD. I even thought the announcers were at least OK, with the Bob Fitzgerald/Anne Meyers duo being my favorite. The Dave Strater (sp?)/Lisa Leslie combo was good, and even Carolyn Peck didn't grate on me too much. Any of them were a lot better than the ill-informed, pretend-we-know-something-about-WBB duo of Mark Jones/Fran Fraschilla that ESPN foisted upon us.

The NBC Livestream, on the other hand, was close to a disaster for me. After watching constant buffering, even at 240p, the stream hung my computer to the point that it took 20 minutes just to get it to shut down. I'm sure a lot of that is because of my old computer and relatively slow internet speed, but either way, I won't be trying that experiment again. Made me wish for WNBA LiveAccess.

I agree it was awesome. Too bad they don't have one for volleyball Sad

America is in Daylight Time, not Standard Time, so is this schedule calculated using Standard Time formulas or is it just mislabeled?

I always omit typing the S or D when giving the time on the game threads because they can't exist at the same time and they cause more confusion than anything. The time purist nerds will probably disagree with me Smile

NBC had the game on pacific daylight time not real time today. So tonight the men's team plays. Wonder when they will show that?

Pardon me if I missed it, but is it possible to watch at least the wbb games if you don't have cable tv?

Everything I've tried, and I'm no pro here, needs a cable account password or some such. If I had cable I wouldn't need to watch it on the computer,... duh.
Just feeling frustrated and cranky.
Thanks to anybody who could help out here.

If your guide shows channel 752 just go there and it should be available. I have Directv and I get the channel. Good Luck!

Thank You! Again my hero. (I haven't posted in a long time but I do remember)
I can watch at First Row Live. I haven't been able to get time to watch yet but my trial run just had a game on. So, so happy!

You can only get that channel if you have an HD receiver and I don't Mad

Dish Network carries the NBC Specialty Channel for Basketball and I believe Soccer but you have to have their 200 HD package and a HD receiver.

Well, darn, keep hoping GBR can steal a game. They hustle, run hard and they attack the basket and they make their FT's. (21/22) But they have no talent.

Maybe Brazil, GBR keeps getting a little better each game and they dropped that switch defense thankfully, not sure what made coach think they could play that in the first place..

"no talent"?? Nah. The Brits actually almost took 5-0 France down. More like "no lucky breaks" for the Brits.

Am I correct with these QF matchups:

Australia vs. China
United States vs. Canada

Russia vs. Turkey
France vs. Czech Republic

USA will not face Australia in the final for the first time since Atlanta...

And after putting the US in late games throughout the group stages, it's a little odd that they've given the US-Canada game the earliest QF slot. Not sure what they were thinking there.

Honestly, the whole slate is suboptimal for local markets. Australia and China will tip off at 11:15 p.m. in Shanghai and 1:15 a.m. in Melbourne. France/Czech Republic goes at 11:15 p.m. in Paris and Prague. Turkey and Russia begin at 10:00 p.m. in Istanbul, 11:00 p.m. in Moscow. (One half-hour later in Newfoundland, of course...)

Gee, I hope the 9th place finish and ONE victory in the Olympics was well worth the Brazilian coach's decision to stand by his principles. Shocked

For those of us time zone challenged what are the tip times for the games using Eastern Time? I have been recording the games, but tomorrow I actually have an evening shift, so I'll get up at 4:30 AM if I have to. Thanks for any help, Derek

It's listed in the first post in this thread under the column "ET"

The second column, labelled ET, is Eastern Time
