I understand and accept the two per country rule, but like all rules there should be exceptions. 4 gymnasts from USA and other countries were in the top 24. Only one of the 4 had a legit chance to receive a medal in the All-around. After all of the sacrifices by the gymnasts, their coaches, and families, it is not fair to be denied a chance of a medal. I think an exception to the 2 per country should be made as follows...
2 per country unless another gymnast from a country (that has 2 gymnasts qualified for the All-around), is in the top 6 of the 24. That is the top 25 % of the gymnasts...the ones that have a legit chance to medal.
I looked at the top 4 ladies scores, and all had scores of 60 point plus...just mere hundredths separated all four. It really is not fair that Jordon, the current World All-around Champion can not compete for an Olympic All-around medal...gold, silver or bronze.

There is not 10 score now. The perfect score I think is now 15.5 or 16.5, though I have no idea how the scoring actually works. |

It is perfectly fair. These rules have been set, everyone knew them going in.
Change the rule if they don't like it, but the rule is the rule. |

There is no 'perfect' these days. Because if, say, Person X did the most insane, ridiculous vault you've ever seen, and landed it perfectly, Person Y could still theoretically come out and do the exact same vault with an extra somersault included and land that perfectly. Person Y's vault would have a higher difficulty value, and therefore a higher score.
And Person Z could always follow them, of course... |

The 10 is the e score. A gymnast's total score is 2 numbers added together the d score, which is the start value and the e score which starts at 10 and the deductions made by the judges are taken from that 10, after all deductions are made that score that was a 10 is added to the d score for the gymnast's final score for her event.
Here is a breakdown of McKayla Maroney's score:
d score 6.5
e score 9.733
for a final score of 16.233

Yes, but as I said, there is no 'perfect', especially in the score that is actually seen and given as the gymnast's ultimate result. Pretty much every gymnast at the Games ought to be able to come damn close to pefect execution if they put up an incredibly easy routine/vault/whatever. But that's a waste of time because something far harder with a few minor errors will score far higher.
In the total score given as the gymnast's result, there is no perfect - because there's always something more difficult than what was just done. |

Yes, that's correct, I was just saying where the 10 the announcer was referring to comes from, not the score itself, but the e score that is part of the final score.
Reading back I don't know why I quoted what you said as well, I wasn't really responding to what you wrote because everything you wrote was right.

Understandably, Wieber looks absolutely freaking miserable while sat watching the women's all-around. |

Gabby Douglas becomes the 3rd straight American to win Olympic All Around Gold, this was her first time competing in an All Around Finals at a Major international competition. Viktoria Komova win the first Olympic All Around medal for Russia since 2004. Aliya Mustafina wins the bronze medal, using a tie break which states the top 3 e scores are added together the highest total score gets the higher placement. For the 13th time since 1952, the first Olympic All Around competition, one country has at least 2 gymnast win All Around medals. It should be noted 2004 was the first year the 2 per country rule was used for the All-Around.
Below are the e scores breakdown by event and totals for Aliya Mustafina and Aly Raisman who both finished with a score of 59.566.
Aliya Mustafina
Vault: 9.433
Bars: 9.100
Beam: 7.533 (dropped)
Floor: 8.700
Total: 27.233
Aly Raisman
Vault: 9.400
Bars: 8.433
Beam: 8.000 (dropped)
Floor: 8.833
Total: 26.666
Edited: It appears what I thought was the tie breaker isn't the tiebreaker, still trying to get it figured out, will post the correct tiebreaker when I do.
Edit 2: Ok I got the tiebreaker figured out:
The top 3 total scores for each gymnast are added together and the gymnast with the highest gets the higher placement. Below is the breakdown of the gymnast scores by event
Here is a breakdown of their scores
Aliya Mustafina
Vault: 5.8+9.433=15.233
Bars: 7.0+9.1=16.1
Beam: 6.1+7.533=13.633 (dropped)
Floor: 5.9+8.7=14.600
3 Event Total: 45.933
Aly Raisman
Vault: 6.5+9.4=15.900
Bars: 5.9+8.433=14.333
Beam: 6.2+8.000=14.200 (dropped)

I agree.
I don't know what event it was or what happened but the US won the gold in a women's event but there were 4 people on the podium and 4 flags raised and two women were on the same podium. I had just turned the tv on and the US national anthem was being played and then it went to commercial after that, so I have no idea of the event or what actually happened.
So, I am wondering if they actually did give two of the same medals in some event.
