156-73 over Nigeria! Shocked A new Olympic record.

I was going to say "unbelievable" . . . but I watched a lot of this one. And it was totally believable. These guys -- especially Carmelo -- put on an 'effn clinic!!!

I watched all of it (from the stands, while still swallowing the bile from the previous game). Nigeria didn't play a lick of defense all night long, but it was still absolutely unreal. Just one of the most ridiculous shoooting displays you'll ever see.

I was already impressed by Kobe with his 14 pts in his first 6 minutes or so but when Carmelo started heating up and ending up with 37 pts in 14 minutes and 10 of 12 shooting from behind the arc Shocked Shocked

And of course there is bitching that the US ran the score up.

Coach K was pretty pissed during the press conference.

My response to those who thought the score was run up: Tell Nigeria to try playing defense.

They shot 80% and hit 29 treys with 41 assists! You don't often see that even playing 5 on 0!

They only shot 71% - trust me, I was staring at the scoreboard in disbelief throughout.

The US really didn't run up the score - they just couldn't miss. Unless you're going to dribble down and just let the shot clock run out on every possession, what are you supposed to do? You've got to shoot at some point. They slowed down the pace in the fourth quarter on a lot of possessions, but carried right on scoring. Criticising them for that game is asinine.

What were they supposed to do, stop playing? Whoever asked that question needs to have their credentials removed.
I would have loved to see what Melo and D'Antoni talked about after that game. Laughing

We have up 73 points to Nigeria? Our defense must really suck.

(Very) Talented individuals will still win out. Good first half by Lithuania and Kleiza.
Spain was upset by Russia earlier.

After going ahead 20-2, at that. Ponkrashov and Fridzon were hitting everything. Even Tina Fey was useful...

This game will definately humble our guys (at least I hope) and give them a wake up call...I'm glad that Lithuania played them closely and I tip my hat to them...

i know it's redundant... but this team really suffers from a lack of size.... and they don't seem to have a gameplan other than "talent wins out".... it's worked very well so far... but i have worries if they're pushed to the limit.. and taken to the ugly place....

The game against Spain should be a tank fest to avoid a possible semifinal date with Team USA.

It's almost like "we have LeBron and you don't"....and admittedly that is a pretty big weapon when you stack up what's behind/beside him. Still a great game plan by Lithuania!

That was an entertaining game. I got caught up in rooting for Lithuania. Their ball movement is very good, but James and Paul made key plays to secure the win.

It was a very good game and Lithuania is very good. But root for them? No, that wouldn't happen for me.

I'm changing the thread title so we can talk about all men's basketball games here.

There's already a general men's basketball thread Wink

Then I'm gonna change it back. Laughing
It was probably too far down the frontpage that I didn't see it. Embarassed
