Is under way, coverage starts @ 3:00pm CDT, 4 hours.
http://www.lpgascoring.com/public/Leaderboard.aspx
A few unknowns in the mix, Katie Burnett, 1 under thru 14, has just 18 putts, and 5 GIR. Burnett is a n 012, So. Carolina grad who finished 5th in the NCAA's, turned pro and won her first event as a pro, the LPGA Michigan Women's Open with a record 11 under on 54 holes. Interesting to see if she can finish this round.
JJ leads at 3 under on the front nine, Lexi Thompson is 2 under thru 8. Alison Walshe is 2 under thru 15, a great start for her. An unknown, Jisoo Park, is at 1 under thru 7. I can't find out anything on this kid at all.

Adds a whole new meaning to the phrase, "dangerous hole". The par 4 5th, at Blackwolf Run, Kohler, WI, site of Se Ri's Pak's famous US Open win in 1998. |

2 under is the lead, they say this course favors long R-L hitters, Lexi is in at 2 under, but, they are some approaches that left will seriously penalise you, so not sure on that.
With some of these pin locations it seems to favor someone who can make 20 footers, hit away from the tough pins, leave yourself a lot of 20-30 footers, and the two players most likely to make a bunch of those are Ai Miyazato, and Kerr. |

All of the great action happened early today, it ain't exactly ESPN's fault.
So now that the cameras are on, the only player that can save this telecast is Lexi, and thus far, she delivers. Call it random dumb luck. |

I'd love it for her to win a major. So much talent there... |
Well Merc, she played a great 18 holes, but there are 36 more to play, not exactly her forte. |

Nope..
At least she made the cut.. |
Wie has a putting issue, I hope I'm wrong, if I am, she could win this.
Right now I'm liking Kerr, Salas, and Thompson. |

I don't want to be misconstrued here, I've been a big fan of Wie since I got to see her play. An amazing talent. I even predicted she would be the number 1 player in the world.
But honestly, I've seen some disturbing shit come off her putter this year. The kinda shit that ruins a golfer. If you can't putt, you can't play.
She erased that yesterday, so today is the biggest day of her career, if she can go out and make putts, again, today, she can rescue her career from the precipice.
The most impressive rounds in my mind yesterday were those of Salas, and Lexi, both made some mistakes, but they showed patience, and finished with a couple 73's, which if that's your bad day in an open, you done seriously good. |

5 putts after the first two holes, sorry Merc, but she is toast, I think we are looking at a possible snowman. |

Hmmm, Vicky Hurst is just sitting there quietly at minus 3, 14 GIR day 1, 31 putts, 14 GIR 2nd day, 31 putts, still there now, albeit she missed two of the first 4 greens, but she's still there, keep an eye on her, she could just play her normal game, and possibly win this one. |

Oh good grief, as soon as I write this she makes birdie and ties the lead. I'd rather she just quietly plays her game and wakes up on the back nine tomorrow winning an Open |

NYC takes control! 6 under after 11 holes, -7, 4 shot lead.
With 5 wins, and 52 top tens, this is not a player you would expect to fold. Someone is going to have to go out and get her. |

Wow, she's now 7 under, a few shots off an Open record I'm sure.
This course is not a typical Open course, the fairways are generous, and the rough has not grown out enough due to drought, so the toughness of the course is the diabolical designs of Pete Dye.
Choi is in the driver's seat, it would good for her if she doesn't wake up anytime soon Right now she's in the zone. |

When you're in the zone, there is no thought, you just see the shot, and then make it happen, it's that frigg'n easy. Aaaughhh, that would be the life, a life time in the zone No good, no evil, just the zone. Na na na na na na.

That 16th hole is a bullshit hole. when you have pros step up and not know where the fuck to hit it, you know you have a bullshit hole.
Basically it's a long par 5, dog leg left at the end, water left, big ass tree guarding green left, every thing slopes hard left. So you lay back well behind the tree, like 130 -150, or you lay up right of the tree and play a shot that won't stop, with everything sloping toward the water.
Bullshit hole... |

Well, she beat the snowman, by a couple shots
33 putts, a lot of days I'd take 33 putts, but as a pro, it sucks, you can't pay the bills on 33 putts. Choi was sitting on 13 putts after 12 holes |

Yea..not surprising.
Wie is a lot more John Daly than Tiger Woods.

Choi leads Amy Yang by 6, and Lexi Thompson by 7 shots.
Folks, if I really dig deep, I can remember Tiger, or Jack Nicklaus hitting an ugly golf shot. The kinda shot that costs you 2 or 3 at an Open.
Folks, I can think back as far as you want, I don't think Choi has ever hit a bad golf shot, not ever. You don't rack up 52 top tens hitting bad shots on Sunday. If by some chance she shoots 75 today it will happen on the greens, not some ugly golf shot.
But if she does shoot 75, somebody else will still have to go damn low to beat her. You go NYC! |

Amy Yang, quietly putting together a really solid round of golf. Still 5 shots behind, but that ain't much in an Open. She's playing with Choi, so she don't need a leader board to know where she is.
When Thompson won at Doha last year, they said she was the youngest winner as a pro.
The youngest winner on the LET was Amy Yang, at 16 years old, as an amateur. Yang is an awesome player, period.
Oh, Choi just did something I said she wouldn't do, she hit an ugly shot, not good folks. |

Oh shit, Choi has to go back to the tee, hitting 3. It must be a yellow hazzard, so there is no option because it's left and there is no place to back up to hit from. Rut roh Scooby. |

Lydia Ko squeaked out a 1 shot win over Emma Talley to be the low amateur. Only three amateurs made the cut this year.
Apparently Ko is the top amateur in the world, at 15 or soething stupid like that. Hey, she's American!
Talley is an incoming freshman at Bama, the reining national champions, when it rains, it pours, right?
Until this year, Bama had never won a National Championship, in anything but football and gymnastics. This year they win football, gymnastics, women's golf, and softball.
