although it says they'll regroup for 2013, it just doesn't look good. unless all 5 fives return, plus 3-5 expansion teams with deep pockets, the league could be done. this could be the last time we see a pro women's soccer league in the US for quite some time.

MLS NEEDS to step in and save the day--much like the NBA helped prop up the WNBA in the early days. Put WPS teams in MLS cities and run double headers with the Women's game BEFORE the men's game. And jeeze change the name from WPS to something better and NOT WMLS. National Soccer League sounds good. Having the word Women in your name or Professional in your name is bad--from a marketing standpoint. Women in the name automatically turns off a huge chunk of people and, unfortunately, has a negative connotation of being low-rent. Having Professional in your name sounds like you're trying too hard--"Look at us look at us, see we're professional! We pay our players and everything!"

Here's hoping the league does in fact come back in 2013 and grows and is here to stay.

I suppose that could work, but how many MLS teams want to take on that risk given that they are struggling to survive themselves? The fact that the NBA is still apparently losing money on the WNBA after all these years should really scare people.

MLS teams might still have a bad taste in their mouths from the WUSA's experience with them. Happycappie's a former Philly Charge STH, and he heard horror stories from DC.

What that the freedom used to try to improperly take gate that was 90% DC United's?

That Foudy flat out published articles perishing the thought of MLS supporting a women's soccer league.

That WUSA somehow blew a 5 year budget in 5 months and had owners pulling out?

Yeah no MLS still hasn't recovered from that...and right now they don't need a women's league, under garber they've grown huge.

All we need is 8. As for losing money? Relearn how to market yourself out of a paper bag and things will turn around.

I could see these MLS teams pulling off a women's team:
1)Seattle
2)Portland
3)Toronto
4)Vancouver
5)Chicago
6)Houston
7)Philadelphia
8)New York
---That gets sanctioning

If even 3 out of the current 5 teams that were supposed to play come back in 2013, plus 3-5 "expansion" teams that were planned, the league COULD be fine. Bring back Atlanta, Philadelphia & Western New York. Add in expansion teams that were proposed in Connecticut, Seattle, Portland, Bay Area & Souther California. Get a TV deal and attempt to get as many sponsors back on board for 2013!!! If potential owners see the league rise again in WPS, there could be room for 2-4 more expansion teams for 2014/2015 in Toronto, New York, Houston & Chicago.

Boston Breakers, Western New York Flash will continue on in the WPSL Elite League for 2012. At least all things aren't totally dark. And I still have an involuntary Fuck You whenever a magicjack commercial comes on.
