Looks like they did an update on the 2013 WNBA Draft first round.
They previously had Angel Goodrich in the lottery at #4

1. Brittney Griner
2. Skylar Diggins
3. Elena Delle Donne
4. Markel Walker
5. Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers
6. Angel Goodrich
7. Tayler Hill
8. Carolyn Davis
9. Lindsey Moore
10. Alex Bentley
11. Chelsea Poppens
12. Taleia Moten

I wonder why they have Markel Walker so high, she jumped from 12, I believe that's where they had her listed the last time I looked. I think she is a great player, she had a solid season this year, and her skill set should translate over to the WNBA pretty well, but she doesn't have areas that she needs to improve on, which I think she can, but I still don't see her moving up that high, unless she has an unbelievable season next year, which is probably not likely considering who is on UCLA's team next year, it will be hard for her to stand out that much.

Hmmm...maybe draftsite and I both googled up the wrong profile

Thing is, if I were a GM in the W, I'm not really sure who (outside of the big 3) I'd take ahead of Markel Walker... especially if her development continues at the same pace it has this past season. The woman averaged a double-double in 2011-12, against a schedule rated the 11th-toughest in the nation. There's not too many players out there in WCBB who average a double-double to go with 4 assists and 2 steals per game, plus a ~.350 average from behind the arc. Physically she's a bit of a freak and her size is about right to play at the 2/3 in the W.

If Markel can bring her TO problem under control, I just don't know who (outside of the big 3) is a cinch to get drafted ahead of her.

I'm not sure who should be drafted ahead of her, but I find it hard to see her having the same type of season she had this season with Atonye Nyingifa, Jasmine Dixon and Alyssia Brewer being in the paint, yes Markel will still get her numbers, but I don't see her averaging a double double, I could see her assist going up and her points and rebounding going down. Also as far as starters go does she stay in the starting line up and one of the other 3 come off the bench, or does she come off the bench, do you start all four and have Markel play one of the guard spots, which I think is a bad choice because her handles aren't that great, they are good because she is able to take advantages of mismatches with 3-4 players are guarding her, but can she still use them to her advantage when she's being guarded by 1-2 players, maybe not. I think her work this summer will determine a lot for her next season in terms of her role on the team and where she goes in the draft. The Bruins have not been this stacked in a long time, and how they play together will determine both how the season goes and where they, if any, get drafted.

The entire top seven from that mock is eligible to declare for this year, by the way. It might go even further, but I couldn't find a birth date for Davis at #8.

Tomorrow's the deadline to let the league know if a player wants to renounce her remaining NCAA eligibility and enter the draft.

Walker just has not impressed me and I've seen her numerous times. I would definitely put Hill, Hawkins, Goodrich, Matthies, Goodrich and probably several others in front of her.

How can someone average a double-double against the 11th-toughest sequence of opponents in the nation and not in any way impress you? How can someone go get herself a *triple*-double and not impress?
Goodness, triple-doubles don't grow on trees!

As for Tayler Hill, okay, I could theoretically see her getting drafted ahead of Markel. On the other hand, given that Hill is 3 inches shorter than Markel and that Markel gets more assists per game than Hill does and the same number of steals per game as Hill and also given the fact that Markel pulls down 7 more rebounds per game than Hill does, I could just as easily see Markel Walker getting drafted ahead of Tayler Hill.*

More like unimpressed with Markel.

Markel Walker and Taylor Hill don't play the same position at all so comparing their stats is like apples and oranges. What didn't impress me? - Lots and lots of TOs and Fouls and shit poor shooting/poor decision making every time I saw her! (she reminded me a bit of an out-of-control bulldozer) But hey, she's got another year to prove me wrong! Wink

Welp, we'll see what happens. A lot can happen (or not) in 2012-13.

I'm surprised Luper is not on that list. She has no chance of winning it, but then neither do 90% of them.

This makes zero sense to me. I swear Davis is the second coming of Braxton, only slimmer and oddly slower. She catches well in the post, but she isn't nimble enough to have any effective post moves, especially in the pros.

I guess that may be enough for a higher draft pick, since "you can't teach size," but I'm not buying it.

Basically no mid-majors, she and Niveen should have been on it.

agree about Rasheed too. It would be nice if they had an equivalent mid-major award....but then I guess the discussion would be about exactly what is a mid major. ie. are the Colonial or A10 midmajors? In my book, the answer is yes but I'm sure there would be debate. For me 'major' would include Big East, ACC, SEC, B10, B12, P12 and that would be it.

A few under-the-radar players:
Karisma Penn sf at Illinois - an interesting player who I think might actually be better in the pros than in college. Good size with guardlike skills. Negative is can't shoot the three and doesn't know it.

Chucky Jeffrey sg - Colorado

Morgan Stroman - Miami - we'll see how she performs sans MoMo and BayBay.

McKenith - St. Johns. ?

Danielle Diamant - Northwestern - well she's tall and can shoot.

others?
