LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 - Large areas of this city lost power today after a utility worker accidentally cut a cable, officials said.

my power went off for literally ten seconds. that was it. obviously it was a bigger deal than that for much of the city. thank goodness the weather has changed and it's cool. so nice!

how on earth can one guy cut a cable and the power go out like that? hell, the terrorists can just sit back and watch.

Anyone want to guess why John Kerry didn't ask America that question? Is there anyone in the US that felt safer in November 2004 than they did in January 2001?

It paints a rather poor picture of the power network design (or complete lack of maintenance) that a cascade effect like that is able to occur.
Sounds like a smaller-scale version of the big blackouts you guys had a few years ago (in the north-east?). I would have thought that important lessons would have been learned from those events.

jammer, I've found that east coasters as a whole seem to like bashing west coasters. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
