Boy, how times change. Who would have thought this would have been the case two years ago (as it pertains to Anosike)? The All-Star season really looks like an aberration at this point, for both her and Charde Houston.

So true. I don't think I was ever sold on Anosike or Houston being All-Stars, though.

That said, we all would've thought it'd play out this way (Tiff > Nicky A) back in 2003. Wink

I wouldn't call Houston's season an aberration personally, firstly because it was a stretch that she made the All-Star team in the first place, but also because she did what we know she can do - score in bunches, barely ever pass, and play no defense whatsoever. I trhink she can probably do that again given the minutes, she's just not going to get them in Minnesota where Reeve's always going to require better D to stay on the floor.

Anosike, on the other hand... yeah, I got nothing.

No Parker (pregnant)
Leslie aging
No Charles or Adams (still in college)
Big Syl still injury prone
Erika and Sancho just entering their primes
Snow sucks
Langhorne just beginning to emerge
DB just a rookie
No Wauters (MIA)

Those would be my reasons for Anosike's league-recognized success in 2009. She did play well--led the Lynx in just about every major stat category, I believe. But it's easier to do when you aren't facing tough competition night in and night out.

That shot is so puzzling! I can't figure out if:

A) She is too dumb to learn, or
B) Nobody has sat her down and shown her tape and worked with her to improve that ugly shot.

She has the athleticism to be outstanding DEFENSIVELY and if she would shoot without falling over backward every time, you have to think her offense would be way better!

Didn't Jen Gillom teach her it?

Though I understand why, that really didn't say much of anything. May God help this complete cesspool of a franchise because the mortals aren't doing anything right.

God wasn't involved in the Shock having the best chances and yet getting the 2nd pick in 2011 and the 4th pick in 2012?

If you refer to the prior posted tweet, it should become apparent that she was taking a required piss test.

Johnson Looking Forward To Tulsa

Quote:
Johnson is anxious and excited about “leading such a young talented group of women” in 2012 and is also expecting herself to grow more as a leader, player and most importantly a person while learning as much as possible about her new team.

Naw, she'll be back. Seems like Tulsa is headed in the right direction, and Cambage has already gotten praise from the new coach.

Yeah, she has already said she is coming back to Tulsa after the Olympics, but that's unrelated to this video. This video is 2011 BOK scoreboard intro footage I thought was pretty cool.

American center Chante Black (196-C-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Shandong, receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 17.
The 26-year old player had a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds, while her team Shandong moved-up to the 11th position in the Chinese WCBA. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 14 games and recorded just three victories. Black turned to be Shandong's top player in her first season with the team. Former Duke University star has very solid stats this year. Black is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 12.6rpg) and averages impressive 1.6bpg and 57.2% FGP.

Thank you for all the translated information.

That doesn't sound like the Tiffany attitude I remember from last year. I wonder what is upsetting her?

As far as Chante, that is really good news, she will be our starting center while Cambage is still in Aussie land. Has she really improved that much or is the competition just easier over there?

Now if we just had some news about a great FA coming our way. Yes we have the cap and the best fans. Time for results.

Tulsa Shock re-signs Jennifer Lacy

Quote:
“Re-signing Jennifer Lacy was a huge priority for us this off-season,” Shock president Steve Swetoha said in a press release issued Monday by the Shock. “She’s a leader and a professional on and off the court and we are extremely excited to have her back in a Shock uniform.”

Just saw on the Shock's Website that neither Swoopes nor Lennnox will be back in Tulsa. Wonder if either one will play again in the W.

If no team, other than Tulsa, wanted her in 2011 I don't see any team wanting her in 2012.

I think if Johnson, Zolman* and Latta are going to be the guards, playing for a competent coach, Tulsa's offense could actually be better than it was last year. Defense will still be a problem, but at least they could run a structured offense and score some points. It would be hard for anyone to duplicate the level of fail they achieved in 2011.

Still, with Klop, I was hoping some free agent of note might sign there.

*She's going by that name again according to the web site.

Surely, even if nowhere else, Charde Houston fits here. Cap room for days, plenty of shots available, a player who for all her faults would surely upgrade their ugly roster, and where the team holding her rights would never match.

It'll annoy the shit out of Klopp once Cambage arrives and Charde ignores her for the 5000th time to hoist a three, but you've gotta start somewhere.

What we learn from the President's Mailbag

1. "We do not plan on re-signing Sheryl and Betty and we wish them nothing but success in the future."

2. "We will still carry 11 players on our roster with Liz not attending training camp and part of the regular season. Liz’s salary will go against our cap and when she returns after the Olympic break we will need to open a roster spot."

3. "Training camp is set for Sunday, April 29th and we will be inviting a total number of 15 players to camp. The final 11-player roster needs to be determined on Thursday, May 17th. We open the season on May 19th at home against the San Antonio Silver Stars."

Obviously, I am not a big Charde Houston fan, but I agree she can help here. Just like Corey Maggette in the NBA, Houston is an adequate player for a bad team, and on her good nights, can be a difference-maker.

No Swoopes and no Lennox = no shooting guards. And I highly doubt there's any good free agents available willing to come to Tulsa. Maybe Ajavon?? Castro-Marques?? Any status on Crossley or Chante Black?? Could they possibly be looking to draft Prahalis or Stricklen??

PG: Johnson/Latta
SG: Ajavon or Castro-Marques/Stricklen??
SF: Holt/Christmas
PF: Jackson/Pederson
C: Lacy/Olajuwan

Right now I'm guessing Johnson, Latta, and Zolman will be the back court rotation, Black, Jackson, and Lacy the post rotation. Petersen will spend time at both the 3 & 4. I don't think they've got a true wing so I'm expecting a big lineup consistently especially if Houston lands here. Charde and Kayla can at least shoot from outside the paint. At the games I attended last year I thought their guard play was the biggest weakness of the team. If they can find an outside shooter or two that opposing teams have to defend, their big girls are gonna score a lot of points. Now as to their defense....Klop's got his work cut out.

While I firmly believe that she (and Lennox) should retire, it is kinda messed up that she is being replaced by Shanna Zolman, who wasn't that great pre-ACL and hasn't played pro ball in at least a year. Goodness, I do think Sheryl is better than that.

Exactly. I'll withhold judgment until I see who they end up with, but it's hard to see how Sheryl wouldn't be a positive for this team for one more year.

I think she could be positive, but it would depend on what the coach/front office is trying to do. If they are really aiming for say 2013 to make a push and trying to get some younger players who can play together and develop chemistry it might not be in the teams best interest to bring in a player like Sheryl Swoopes who would probably be a part of the offense if she were on the team where as if they get a few younger players who can develop within the offense this season and add a few players next season through free agency and in the draft they could be better off in the future.

Are there any teams that might sign Swoopes?

I realize no one would take a chance last year, but she proved she still has some game.

For instance if you're SA would you rather have Swoopes or Hodges? Conn Swoopes or Hightower?

Does PX have a decent 2 off the bench or Washington?

NY? Atlanta?

Is she done or does someone giver her vet minimum?

If she can't accept a reduced role (i.e. coming off the bench), then no--those teams don't need to make a play for her.

Does this mean that they have to pay Cambage even though she isn't playing? Or is it just having to apply her salary to the salary cap total (for some strange reason) but not actually making payments to her?

Lennox was injury riddled last year, but Swoopes actually contributed. Since Swoopes took a while to get back in shape and in the groove you would think they'd at least take a look to see if she can perform better than someone else in camp. It's looking like that camp isn't gonna have any more talent than it's had the first two years and they could really use wins in 2012. Same thing for Lennox - see if her body is in any better shape. I hope they have some surprises at the guard position forthcoming. At this point it's going to be another ugly year in Tulsa, even with Crossley and Black coming back.

I would think she would accept a very reduced role, unless she has some other job she's doing.
