Here we go - I'll be up at stupid o'clock in the morning to watch the Matildas v Brazil. I hope this will be a good game. Don't expect Australia to win, but hope they can push them, maybe wrangle a draw.

Well, that wasn't very encouraging. Hopefully Marta can be a little more assertive in the next match.

Yeah it was an odd match - Brazil looked very flat in the first half but exerted more pressure in the second and took their chance.

We had some good chances but couldn't convert. Foord was impressive, and De Vanna did everything but finish. A bit disappointed not to get some kind of result given the chances we had. Brazil, please feel free to get into your goove and flog Norway.

Those Super Falcons sure are super foulers. (Hilarious, I know.)

... This was not called a handball. It's hilarious and yet the ref missed it entirely. Aussies were pissed. Razz

It's laughable how bad a ref screw up that was. Lucky we got the win. We did our best to lose it though in the last 10 minutes. All of the goals we have conceded have been really poor defensive errors, but we held on and Brazil happily beat Norway for us. Should be a cracker of a game to see who gets the last spot!

I would argue that determining first place in groups are pretty important too... Considering that will impact placement in the knockout rounds. There'll probably be a fair amount of strategy revolving around who you want to face (or not face) in the quarter finals.

TODAY'S RESULTS
Group A
Germany 4 - France 2
Nigeria 1 - Canada 0

FINAL STANDINGS
1. Germany 3-0-0 9pts
2. France 2-0-1 6pts
3. Nigeria 1-0-2 3pts
4. Canada 0-0-3 0pts

Germany & France advance

Group B
England 2 - Japan 0
Mexico 2 - New Zealand 2

FINAL STANDINGS
1. England 2-1-0 7pts
2. Japan 2-0-1 6pts
3. Mexico 0-2-1 2pts
4. New Zealand 0-1-2 1pts

Really surprised by how poorly Canada played in this World Cup. Really was expecting them to advance after their strong effort against Germany in the opening match. Considering they're the next host(2015), they really need to step it up for the next WC. Suprised England beat Japan, but they played very well today. This sets up two great quarterfinal match-ups in Germany vs. Japan & England vs. France.

I'm so excited about the Australia v Norway game tonight... all we need is a draw, Norway need to win. I expect them to push hard, which given our sometimes shakey defense should be interesting. Here's to another blurry eyed day at work on Thursday.
