......or those who may have or be experiencing similar circumstances.
Is there a blood test for alzheimer's? Anybody have any insight on this for me? It's not for me, but my mom. This is one of those thngs that you think 'won't happen to me'. But I am afraid it may be happening.

Alzheimer's disease cannot be definitely diagnosed until after death, when the brain can be closely examined for certain microscopic changes caused by the disease.

However, through thorough testing and a "process of elimination," doctors today can diagnose what they refer to as probable Alzheimer's disease with almost 90% accuracy.

A CT scan of the head can help as well. One of the gross features of Alzheimer's disease is atrophy of the brain which can be picked up with a CT scan. So that along with clinical features such as recent memory loss, slow onset of dementia, disorientation, etc. aid in the diagnosis.
