So incredibly sad. Now that beautiful smile will be lighting up heaven. Margo, you touched so many lives and taught us all so much. My heart goes out to her family and friends. As sung by Michael Jackson, "Gone too soon." Sad

Mechelle Voepel put it best...

People everywhere looked up to her -- not because she was 7-2, but because she had character that was immeasurable.

Aren't you glad you got that jersey?? Such a great reminder of your heroine. Blessings to you today.

I remember another player passing earlier this year or last year, I can't remember who though, I think she played for the Sparks.

This is really incredibly sad, very random as well, I don't recall ever hearing about her having serious health issues, it must have been terrifying for her family. Very, very sad, my heart goes out to her family, friends, and fans.

I am so lucky, after she retired, she "emptied her closet" so to speak
and sent me sneakers, warm up gear, other jerseys ... I was very
lucky to have her as my hero..... she was "head and shoulders"

Our local paper has a nice slide show of her carrer up on their website.
Mostly pictures from her time here in SA but it does cover her other teams.

WBB just lost a truly unique icon. There will NEVER be such a player again, I'm sure: one who could be so dominant, yet demonstrated such finesse, combined with such intellect and grace of character.

If anyone finds any medical explanation of her demise, I'd be interested to see it. It just seems odd, with today's technology, that such a young woman should have to die of a heart attack. Crying or Very sad

Yep. Margo was the third WNBA player to have passed away. I believe someone else named Ross, a Sparks draft pick many years ago but didn't play a regular-season game, was murdered last year.

Sigh. I couldn't bring myself to post here for a while. Feels like it really shouldn't be true, and we'll wake up tomorrow to hear it was all a misunderstanding.

RIP, Margo. My thoughts and condolences to all of her friends and family as well.

this is a real shame. i remember the first time seeing her play was when the Sun were facing the Monarchs in the 2005 series. I thought she was a beast on the court. One of the memories I'll remember of her is of when The Monarchs were in Conn and she did something on the court. At this time they had a mic on Whiz and he starts jumping up and down, pointing at Margo, yelling at the ref "The big one did it! the big one did it!" When they came back to Sac for the series, I had a sign that said "the big one did it" and she looked over and laughed. Definitely going to be missed.

Wow, what a sad day.

I remember watching how other teams would beat up on her under the basket and she always turned away...never retaliated. She had a a big classy heart...strange it would fail her at such a young age. I think about her young children and wonder, how will they ever know how great and classy their mother was.
My condolences to her husband, her children and family. May God bless her and her unborn child.

The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times have run the Associated Press story. I did a Yahoo search on Margo and found media outlets across the globe are running mostly the AP story also. I hope it is some consolation to her family to know how much she was loved and respected by people around the world.

Anyone have ideas for how to celebrate and recognize Margo at opening day games?

A user at Stormfans.org suggests simply carrying a small sign or wearing a #12 on your shirt.

I will make a #12 and put it on my chest for the Storm opener. I want to celebrate the championship and welcome Katie Smith to the Storm that night but I think just wearing her number will be the kind of understated, gracious gesture Margo would appreciate.
