There is just something about match play that stimulates the imagination.

Here are the pairings, there are some good ones. Kane v Sherlock, the two Canadians, my money is on Sherlock, rookie v legend.

Geez, looked at these again.

Chistina Kim v Julie Inkster

Stacy Lewis v Katherine Hull. Are you kidding me, this is a pissing contest of the first order, I'm sure they are friends, but this match is two gals who seriously don't accept losing. I'll take Lewis, 1 up.

I messed this up, the bracket wasn't even drawn until today:

Strange draw, a lot of nationality fratracide, Spain v Spain, USA v USA, Korea v Korea, Aussie v Aussie.

Gulbis was a sponsor exempt, she drew Pettersen, not much chance there.

Some good looking matches though, some great potential second round matches.

Wow, I'd love to have been there to see this match. 21 holes, sudden death, and both these girls have model looks.

I'm not kidding, both of these girls are seriously good and seriously good looking.

I watched a bit of this yesterday. Relating to another thread over in WNBA, somebody said ESPN hates women sport. GC went over time to cover the end of this match. They do that all the time with women's golf, when they have compelling golf, they show it. schedule be damned.

Wie v Nordquist, this a pretty good golf match. They came down #18 tied, the commentary excoriated Wie for not going at the par 5 in two from 209 yards.

I think wie played it smart. Why take a chance when you are even. Lay up you are still even. Besides, Wie has become a damned good wedge player. Don't know why exactly, but Wie looked really solid and comfortable out there, maybe because school is out at Stanford.

I think Wie gets her third win this Sunday.

Golf Central is the GC version of ESPN sports center. This week they are talking LPGA. The compelling match today? Lewis v Pettersen.

Well, I guess Pettersen beat Lewis.

So here are the last players standing.

http://www.lpgascoring.com/public/MatchLeaderboard.aspx

It would be easy to write off Choi, but I can't do it. This kid hits a golf ball where she aims it. Putting counts big time in match play. So I take Kerr.

Oops, I think i just picked the final. Kerr v Choi, take the putter.

Kerr.

Angie is one of my favorite players, She came on the scene, 2002 at the US Open. She really should have won that one. It was a classic!

I think she is a beautiful woman. [duh!] I just didn't pick her to win. Picking pros, in match play, pretty stupid, really.

Pettersen wins! Beats Kerr in the final. I didn't even watch this one. I'm such a homer. I was pissed last year when Stanford lost the final. This year I didn't even watch.

This is great for Pettersen. She's been on a long dry spell, so it's good for her and good for golf. Just to add some context. I've seen Pettersen in person. She sorta looks larger than life on TV. She is such a physical specimin. In person, you would be surprised! She is actually kinda petite.
