Breanna Stewart has mentioned trying to get a longer break for Olympic years and a multiple week break even in other years added to the new CBA as the 40 game season is too wearing on the players without it.

I hate it. It's just going to fuel the haters if, even with charters, the frail little girls can't play half the season the men do without taking a month off in the middle.
Besides which, there's no time for it. A multi-week break means the season would have to end multiple weeks later, endangering their overseas engagements, or the schedule would have to even more tightly packed with back-to-backs and games with little rest, which defeats the purpose of the break. If they're going to add that much time, just schedule each team two games per week and play for 20 weeks. That's only five weeks longer than they're playing now.

A'ja Wilson also chimed in on this topic and wanted a days rest from flying to playing, so if they fly in on Thursday, they don't play until Friday.......

The stage is being set for some serious negotiations in the next CBA. Expect more such "thoughts" to be brought forward as chips to be tossed onto the table -- or removed.

The math won't support the players trying to be greedy on this next CBA. 140 million new revenue, multiplied by .48 which is what percentage of the league is owned by the WNBA, so 67 million of actual new revenue to the league. Now subtract the 50 million the league is going to lose this year with the charter flights. That leaves 17 million of actual profit for the first time in the leagues history. The owners are going to pocket half of that at least, leaving about 8-9 million to be spread out over the 12 teams players. Now, you start making more demands for non-pay issues its only going to reduce the the pool of money to raise the salaries. If it goes all to salaries, that is enough to raise the average pay by about 40-50% per player.
Now, if the additional 60 million that the league has hinted at coming later comes through, that is another 28 million in the pool, half to the owners but that is still 14 million to spread around the players. That would double the current salaries for a total of 250% increase if the players union just pushes for salary and revenue sharing instead of these frivolous demands for things that really don't matter.

That break time could be better used to work out a better schedule so that the games are evenly spaced throughout the season. Now teams have large stretches of multiple games and others where they have few. At the srart of this season Indiana had about 6 games in the same time frame in which the Aces had 2.

The WNBA is dealing with a hard restriction on the start date, as they cannot really open camp until after the NCAA season is over, and I would bet my house that there is an end date tied to a certain starting point of the NFL season in the new TV contracts. So any talk of extra rest or spacing games out better is mostly just that, talk. Certainly there are a few things they could improve in that area, but arena availability is also an issue in several cities. And as far as the players throwing out these ideas as bargaining chips, I don't think it will be at all effective. The league has the charter flights as a counter argument and I very much doubt the players union would be willing to go to their players saying we got a rest day after flights, but you have to fly coach again.

The women average about 10 games a month. Men about 13.5.
The difference is the overseas play of the women making it basically a year long season.
The league has to find a way to balance the schedules better IMO. Ten games a month, two to three games a week. Ideally, if the team has to travel, give them two games. If they don't, give them three.
Otherwise it seems like it should be up to the coaches to manage their players and get them the rest they need.

Wait...40 games is too much? If the league continues to expand (and it appears it will) the number of games will continue to rise. And again, 40 games is too much but you're starting a second league that will play after the W season if I remember correctly? I mean, I'm not against it. If its needed, its needed but I just find that current reasoning a little lacking, |
