Looking at the leader board, it looks like carnage, looks like the LGU decided that Oakmont is not the toughest course on the planet.

Right now four players are at one under, Webb and Inkster are two of them. Nobody has finished yet.

The name on the board that just pops out at me is Laura Davies. Boy if she could win this it would the most popular golf win on the planet.

Davies is a throw back, work hard play hard, she is Champagne Tony Lema, she is Walter Hagen. She is a mythical character in modern times...

What course are they playing? How does it compare to Oakmont?

I guess I could look this up, but you are the resident Guru of Golf, so I'd enjoy hearing your take on it.

Thanks.

They are playing Royal Birkdale, in England. Padrig Harrington won the Open there a couple of years ago.

It's a very straight forward links golf course, no blind shots. Three out of the last four holes are par 5's. That could be exciting on Sunday.

The rough is not that bad, so I think it's a long hitters course. The greens are reasonably soft, and the speed is nominal.

But it's a BO links course, bunkers are real hazards, and if you hit the ball too off line, you may not find it, and you still have to keep the ball low, and keep the ball on the ground on some shots.

All that said, I think somebody will go low, like 65, I think before it's over and it will be a long hitter is my guess.

Bam Bam is one shot back after starting double, and bogey after two, the BIG Wiesy birdied 17, and eagled 18 to be 2 shots back of Yani Tseng and Katherine Hull. Tseng is a big hitter, Hull is not.

Just to advise:

Today's coverage is available on ESPN3.

http://espn.go.com/espn3/player?id=16181&league=Golf

If your IP contract includes ESPN3, then the link should work.

Good move, she shot herself out of it today. 76.

Wie can't seem to get outta her own way. I think she has too many clingers, voices around her. When she played Solheim cUp these people were NOT allowed to be anywhere near her, not even her parents. She shined.

If I were Wie, at this point I would fire everybody, the Caddie is her call, but the rest of em, you are fired, I'd fire my parents too. You want to play mom and dad, have at it. But stay the hell outta my business.

Wie would play better tour golf if she befriended a tour straggler, and toured with the Motel 6 crowd. Actually there is no Motel 6 crowd, they stay with host families I think.

I don't normally give ESPN cudos, but I have to this time. They are showing 3 hours of coverage each day.

What they are doing the first 2 days, is showing the first 1.5 hours on tape of leaders and popular players and then flipping to live coverage the last 1.5 hours prox.

So basically we are getting a condensed version of what you have to watch 6-8 hours of live in a menss event.

I cussed yesterday when they came on, taped, but then they flipped live and I got it. We will miss maybe a round or two in the afternoon that puts somebody on the leader board, but overall, for 3 hours we are getting a lot of bang for the time slot.

ETA: **Spoiler**

Wait til you see the way Bam Bam plays the last 4 holes Laughing Laughing Laughing

Icher is in the top 20. Obviously won't win, but I would love to see a top 10.

Hopefully Creamer can play on Saturday.

Would love to see Caudal win, I know nothing about her.

Rosales will probably make the cut. Looks like that horrible slump is over.

Pettersen is my pick for the weekend for the fact that she is in the top 5 without making a putt.

Pressel shot 65 today, she's in the house at 3 under.

Tseng wins it.

Upthread, there was some talk of the coverage. The first 2 days were covered better than the last 2.

Wow that was exciting and interesting. But honestly, it went down the last day the way I expected except i thought if Hull played the way she did, she might win.

Yani played perfect golf the 2nd and third round but never really made many putts. She made two or three bad swings Sunday, and they were not bad in the real sense.

This is the astounding number, and the one HUll should look at when she starts beating herself up. Yani had 124 putts, that is over 31 putts per round. The only Majpr champion I can recall that ever won with a number like that was Singh winning the Masters. That is how easy her scoring was. She hit the ball perfectly in all sets on conditions.

So I hope Hull, understands that it is to her credit that she even came close to winning. That said, I think they should have hit a shorter club on 18. Once they saw that Yani was in the bunker, they should have missed short at all cost. Hitting the ball through the green in that situation was just a mental mistake.

It was a great final round. Just great.
