I'm not a fan of idol, I think the performers here do a great job but for me it's not the same as having Travis up there, even if he can't sing. Probably true for Sinatra, he was popular long after his voice got weaker, but fans still loved his performances. They were not that bad though.
Not much a fan of Christina, she just seems to be stuck on crescendo and loud. But then I probably wouldn't know, just seems that way. |
I love singers, so I was always into the show. (although the past couple of seasons a good singer hasn't even won..which annoys me)
I think a lot of people feel that way, the "not the same" but I thought the performance itself, with those two kids..was just, as I said, precious. And perhaps a little more heartfelt. Where as with Randy and Carrie, it was definitely more about, really, celebrating Randy Travis.
However, that is probably why that some of the shows greatest moments come in form of a contestant making the song original (Kris Allen's "heartless" pretty much won him the competition. And Adam Lambert's "Mad World" was breath taking. )
Christina..I agree with you. Subtlety is lost on her. But she has an unbelievable voice. Which is why I say, the second she figures out "less is more...." However, her power and vocal acrobatics were perfect for that song. |
Hey, check this out, decided to check in on Connie Talbot, The 6 year old Britains Got talent star. She is the opposite of Christina, she creates drama, just by singing so soft you think her voice will crack. Anyway, fast forward, I found this pretty interesting. Not sure how old she is here, looks recent, maybe 10 years old.
I swear there are a few passages in here where she does some shit with her voice, creates some unique pure sounds that I doubt none but the best classicaly trained vocalists could duplicate, and even then it would not be the same. The audio and video sucks, the perfermance over all is not exceptional, but listen for those sounds.

This is incredible.
This is a benefit performance. Incredible. No fancy sound equipment, no band, just her voice and a sound track to back it up. Incredible sound for a kid.

If I may take this in a different direction, the entirety of the Adolf Eichmann trial has been uploaded to youtube:

I haven't watched it all yet. What I have seen is fascinating stuff.

She's adorable. I especially like the little bit of laughing in the middle of the song.
She has such a pure voice, I wonder what she'll sound like when she's older.

One can only hope. I am a huge admirer of her parents. They appear, it seems, that they don't care if this kid sings, makes another schilling or not.
If this kid can somehow make it to adulthood with her head and career in tact. I think what we might hear will be truly amazing. She has set records for the youngest this and that in the music business already, but it's her voice, I think anyway.
Just watched Charlotte Church's movie the other day. Now THAT is an out of this world pure voice. Don't know much else about her.

Not sure how I found this kid, but she amazed me, 11 years old.
Go to about minute 2:00 of this video. First she finishes song #1, tells a joke, then she sets up her 2nd original song. The lyrics are simple but good, touching, the vocal phrasing and guitar are perfect. Amazing. Blew my ass away. More talent, more poise, more originality than the most minute # of AI folks. I'm serious. 11 years old. The crowd reaction confirms.

There is more video out there, I just picked this one. |

Added these two to my Utube folder. (posted on another thread)
The first is just Joplin, Summer Time, live, decent sound and video.
The second is just about the base solo, (around 1:00) as near as I can tell, it's from Crossroads guitar festival.
If anyone has similar solos or base jamming, would love to hear it.

I saw Janis Joplin, as part of big brother & the holding company, open for Country Joe & the Fish(they were the headliners) at UCSB in 1968, I
think. Janis stole the show!

Thanks pilight. |

This one just blows my mind. What blows my mind is KK. I was watching some interview the other day.
KK was sleeping w/Janis.
Whatever. What totally blew my mind was this. And this 40 years after the fact.
He said,
"I never actually heard Janis sing Bobby McGee"

I can't even think about Karen Carpenter without getting upset. Maybe that is why she does not exist. It hurts too much.
But she had one of the best sounding voices ever, like ever. Ever.
How do you pick a song, an event? The Carpenters were like this guilty pleasure of the 70's. Nobody would actually admit they liked em. Not Cool.
Ok, I picked one.

I always thought Halo was a beautiful song, and it works so much better acoustic like that.
People like this, is why I like Idol. Every once in a while, you find a gem. Adam Lambert was a fantastic singer and a performer, but he was 28, and he had been apart of a lot of musical theatre..he had a lot of experience. Haley Reinhart..just a kid. She changes up the song, every night on tour..and it's completely different from the original one she sang on idol. Some singers just have something special about them, and she certainly does.

Also, if you have time, this was extremely interesting. I'm a fan of Hanson to begin with, but I hadn't seen this until recently (it's like 5 years old). The director/producer, wanted to film a documentary on the album making process, and it ended up being a film about the struggle's artists have with recording companies.

What moron came up with this tease/block idea?
?
What artist sold more records USA, the last three years? What artist virtually gives away all public video?
Enough said. |

This is KK, Loving Her Was Easier, San Sabastian, Spain.
A nice tune, but not the reason for this post. Check out the visuals, what a cool freaking place to have a music festival.
