Well, I think I need to post a Taylor Swift, my concept of utube gold is not necessecarily about the best music, there is another thing called video, I would not archive in most cases what I don't think is just great video.

So hopefully these are the first Swift songs I have posted, I think they are.

But before that let me say that Google edits, I had to go to my rebkell vanyogan posts link to get here this time.. A simple Rebkell vanyogan, utube gold, did not get me there with google this time, Google edits folks, if you think otherwise you are a fool.

Swift's critics say she can't sing live and she don't do country, so here we go:

Drive, Alan Jackson.

http://www.4shared.com/file/102895965/ab7dddd2/Taylor_Swift_-_Drive_-_061208__CMT_Giants_-_Alan_Jackson_.html

[disclaimer: ya sorta have to know what a 75 Johnson is for this one]

Run, George Strait

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ5gn54V9_0

Brooks and Dunn, and IMO, one her best, most free performances ever:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03UmdZJ_EzU

Done deal.

Thanks Merc, that is a nice piece of music IMO.
ETA: I love it actually, I'm still listening to it.

I'm a bit gobsmacked in that there have been nary a few contributors to this thread,

It's true that this is sort of a personal archive, and I think I have maintained some certain discipline in terms of what I post here. For instance, it's true that I admire Taylor Swift for instance, but I waited until I thought I was laying something down truly worthy. For sure that piece, Back To December is a nice piece of music IMO.

However, mine is only one opinion. Thus I would love it if others would post great music. I only ask that one thinks long and hard before they post this thread, make sure that what ever piece you post, measures up to your own highest standards. I feel like I have done that.

Thanks again Merc.

I love youtube, especially the covers. BTW, you posted a mix of viva la vide and Love Story...that's now on my ipod. Anyone who hears it absolutely loves it.

But this girl, one of the most incredible voices I think I've ever heard. (She's actually singing, despite how perfect she sounds)

She definitely has a great voice but sadly, and this is just my opinion, she has no chance. That is what frustrates and fascinates me about the music business, there are thousands of great voices out there.

My favorite voice, aside from Streisand, is McBride, I don't think there is anyone out there that can touch her, and that includes Underwood. Maybe Kelly Clarkson can.

But to the point. I don't think I have ever heard McBride hit a bad note. More to the point, look at all of her live TV performances, perfect every one of them. But get real for a second, McBride has never had a truly commercial song. Not one, she made a living off of her voice, and how she ever found the light of day, I have no idea.

I think you get my point.

Yea, she has a very classical voice. It's not mainstream..we don't like talent. Razz I love McBride's voice, but Mariah was always my favorite voice. I loved Christina Aguilera too, but she annoys me..she uses too much auto-tune when she doesn't need it, and doesn't get that "less is more".

My favorite idol singer though, is between Adam Lambert (truly an incredible voice, despite getting more attention for kissing and the like.) And Allison Iraheta (the girl singing with Orianthi..and apparently they still are trying to work together. Allison said that they'd like to bring back the Heart sound) Underwood's got a beautiful voice, but she doesn't touch those two, imo.

Did I post that here? I love it, another nice piece of music. If I posted that one, I need to post another one. Another Swift cover song.

I think that is like another benchmark as to just how good Swift is, you have to look long and hard to find anyone who can cover her songs.

This one is a cover of You Belong With Me. So good in fact that the guy who did it, ended up performing with her at the Grammies. But don't be fooled, this guy is a great musician all on his own.

Butch Walker. Watch the whole thing, it's great!

I'm going to add this one, and break my own rules so to speak. There is no one piece of compelling music here.

Call it a guilty pleasure, but I watch this video all the time.

This is, Kennedy Center honors Dolly Parton.

Before I post the two links. I must say that in my mind, and I love Dolly Parton. As a kid growing up in the 70's, you may find this hard to believe, while I was listening to Kiss, and Queen, and Kansas, And the Stones, and all this other great music, Alice Cooper!

Through all of that stuff above, I'm actually quite proud to say, I did not miss Dolly Parton. Believe it or not, as a teen, we, my mates, we actually listened to Coat Of Many Colors. Of course we macho pretended it was over the top tear jerk music. But we listened to it because it was compelling music.

I have been thinking about this performance for some time.

As an actress I love Paltrow. I loved that period English piece she did way back when. But, then she married this English bloke and said some shit that I found puke invoking.

But, none the less, I found this performance under the circumstances extraordinary. The song is simplistic and unworthy of note, but the performance, not only can she act, sell this crap song, she does it flawlessly, thus Gweneth Paltrow earns my utube gold post.

heh, I like Carrie's voice better, although on that song, I actually like Kellie Pickler's version the best

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDfVB2Ci6w8

Kellie's so funny, because I swear she becomes infinitely more talented when she sings old country.

I actually had a video for this thread..but I completely forgot what it was..

Kelly is like dolly, unfortunately, she doesn't have the songs.
Swift does have the songs, you just hide and watch. If Im old enough I might experienjce it.

In the mean time, the White Stripes do Jolene.

Swift's talent is completely in her writing and vision. The way she puts together a tour (and it's completely her) is incredible. Not to mention the writing. There's no doubt that even if she stops actually singing her songs, she'll stay in the business for a long while with everything else she's good at.

Maybe Taylor should write for Kellie Laughing

So for some reason, I was thinking about Shania Twain.

All she did was sell something like 50 million albums.

She cut three albums, skipped arenas and did a stadium tour, and then she was gone.

I love this video, this is her come back video, and boy does she rub it in...

Sorry, the cmt version don't work.

This has been out there a while, if you have not seen it, definitely worth a listen.

It's a Swift cover song, White Blank Page, Mumford & Sons.

Personally I think Swift is awesome in this, but what it really highlights is how great her band really is. Where do they find the time? They have about 20 songs, some with multiple versions, but they find the time to do this one time, one off thing... and they do it great.

This is so off the charts good, words can't describe it. Take all your bias goggles off, I had to take mine off too, because Pink shot her mouth off once and it pissed me off so I ignored her, I may have posted her version of Bobby McGee, but she must have a weak work ethic or a bunch of morons for a team, but you just can't mispronounce Baton Rouge like that and get away with it, even if you kick ass and take names, she did.

Anyway, take your bias goggles off and watch this, the risk, athleticism, it's amazing.

Pink.

Remembered the video..

Idol did this a while ago, but they did a sort of tribute to the Carrie Underwood/Randy Travis duet.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/54MSEjXH4ek?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

I actually like it better than the Carrie/Randy duet. It's more "precious" to me. (The girl is 16, the boy 17..I think she is the youngest Idol contestant ever, when she auditioned she was 15) I have a feeling both will end up doing well in country music, particularly the boy. (Scotty McCreery)

And while we're going with Idol Duets..one of the best..

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UURTLsneDgE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="349" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

The Pink performance is one of my favorite performances ever. But my favorite is easily this Christina one.

Christina remains one of the most talented singers I have ever heard..the day the girl learns "less is more..."

I'm not a fan of idol, I think the performers here do a great job but for me it's not the same as having Travis up there, even if he can't sing. Probably true for Sinatra, he was popular long after his voice got weaker, but fans still loved his performances. They were not that bad though.

Not much a fan of Christina, she just seems to be stuck on crescendo and loud. But then I probably wouldn't know, just seems that way.

I love singers, so I was always into the show. (although the past couple of seasons a good singer hasn't even won..which annoys me)

I think a lot of people feel that way, the "not the same" but I thought the performance itself, with those two kids..was just, as I said, precious. And perhaps a little more heartfelt. Where as with Randy and Carrie, it was definitely more about, really, celebrating Randy Travis.

However, that is probably why that some of the shows greatest moments come in form of a contestant making the song original (Kris Allen's "heartless" pretty much won him the competition. And Adam Lambert's "Mad World" was breath taking. )

Christina..I agree with you. Subtlety is lost on her. But she has an unbelievable voice. Which is why I say, the second she figures out "less is more...." However, her power and vocal acrobatics were perfect for that song.
