I saw Orianthi in concert. She (along with Allison Iraheta - who has an incredible voice..perfectly imperfect) opened up for Adam Lambert.
The best quote about her is that she sings like Taylor Swift, and plays like Slash.
Her songs were okay (although I like According to you) but her best moment, easily came with Iraheta. She plays a song with Iraheta. They have a lot of chemistry on stage. And it's the one song where Orianthi seems to really let lose. (I think Iraheta's energy rubs off on her.)

Although, I think this is the best music video I've seen in a while. Apparently every lyric of the song is a reference to old school fifties/sixties songs.

I just discovered this person yesterday.
But, Merc, I would say you are one lucky fuck!
I have no idea, my dream before I heard of this person was Gloriana, live.
But, However, like forget about it.
I just want to hear this woman rip the crap outta a guitar. Period, end of story. |

That was the best part of her set, when she wasn't singing, just playing. She actually played on her guitar and someone else's guitar at the same time at one point.
I'm big into voices. So I prefered Allison's and Adam's set. But I was really excited about seeing Orianthi. Hey, if you were going to tour with MJ you gotta be pretty good.

SALIVATING...
But I suppose that is not the point, the point is that nobody appreciates the blues, so this girl could be the most kick ass guitarist in the world (she is), it would not matter, because nobody would have heard her.
I think that is the interesting part, suppose she has some dumbass niche song, ya know, like pop, something stupid like that, and in the middle of this song, girlfriend just goes off! She goes off and she plays guitar like nobody, could actually even dream of (she can do that )
Now that would be really, seriously, something... |

Had to add this one. I bought this CD and listened to it a couple times and that was it. It is not that her music isn't good, it's just that most of it goes right over my head, whoosh!
I sorta get this song and it is indeed extraordinary. I seriously doubt anyone has ever written a song that says what she says here and I bet it will be another millennium before somebody says it again.
For that reason, this song makes the list. |

To be honest, that's why I really like the idea of Iraheta and Orianthi writing and performing together. (They've apparently been writing)
Iraheta's strength is in blues/rock and Orianthi fits that mold too. Both are Young and cute so for their first albums, have been sort of pushed in the "pop/rock" direction. But their future certainly lies elsewhere. (I also think that Orianthi belongs playing..not singing.. )

Had to add this one, after all, this is my own archive so to speak,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYIGFLKeMi0
This one gets the nod, the music is great but the videography is magnanimous, the silhouettes of those microphones, against that big ass North Dakota sky. |

I just want to say, I love YouTube also. I could fill up a thread or two with stuff and I don't want to step into yours, Van, with my favorites. That said, dude, why don't you embed the dang things here so we can watch the vids right in this thread?
Like this. Where are you a-headin', Johnny Smoke?

Jammer, I am like somebody else that posted, I just have not figured out how to embed yet.
But more to the point, I'm not sure an embed gains anything, if you click my link, one single click, you are there, you can shape it, zoom it, whatever you want to do,
So, what exactly is the advantage of an embed vs a direct utube link?
ETA: Further to the point, folks who are embedding, well, if one is like me, I don't see the embed, all I see is the code, so, again, I see no advantage to the embed vs the direct link which everyone can use... |

Okay. I understand it's not the easiest or most obvious thing to pull off, and throw in the fact that some of you guys' browsers don't show up the embedded video properly. But Van, please. Seriously. I don't mean to make fun and someone guffawing progress but yes, having the vid sitting there ready to play IN your post is very much better than not. That's why they have embed capabilities and that's why people embed. You don't go anywhere, you just hit play. Never leave Rebkell's and never leave the thread. Movie is right there in front of you. You get a visual preview also, which, in the case of what YOU are doing in this thread, REALLY would help out in figuring out whether a person wants to actually view that video OR in helping them to remember which ones they've viewed.
Progress, dude. Technology. Marches on._________________ Every woman who has ever been presented with a career/sex quid pro quo in the entertainment industry should come forward and simply say, “Me, too.” - jammer The New York Times 10/10/17 |

Here's a quick and easy workflow.
Click the embed button under the YouTube video you want to embed. Right click on the blue text and pull down to COPY.
Paste in an empty message field here on Rebkell's.
Click PREVIEW button.
Look at your video (if you're one of the ones that that embedding shows up for) and then look at the extra code surrounding your video. Go down to the posting field and delete that text. Hit PREVIEW again. If it's not all gone or your video is now gone, try again. After a few times, you learn to recognize exactly what you have to delete and it's a done deal every time.
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TCug5HG9jLg?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Another way is to count SIX instances of the word parem. after the sixth, there's an end >
delete everything before that and you get a clean video.
BUT... even if you can't you can still get a video embedded... just not without some extra code. It'll look like this.
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TCug5HG9jLg?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TCug5HG9jLg?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>_________________ Every woman who has ever been presented with a career/sex quid pro quo in the entertainment industry should come forward and simply say, “Me, too.” - jammer The New York Times 10/10/17 |

Yo! Don't tell me about progress, I was texting back in my own day, we called it a Telex. I still remember punching all those damned cards in Fortran computer lab.
Progress? |

I found this amazing expose on Waylon Jennings, but before you poo poo this story, it starts out in Lubbock,TX with Buddy Holly. It took Waylon a decade and a half, along with Willie before their idea of music meshed with the populous, Waylon was the original outlaw, and i was one of those long haired kids that bought into it, I suppose I should be proud of that except I was just one of millions.
Watch the whole thing, 7 parts, here is a link to part one.

People who grew up in the 60's love that music.
People who grew up in the 70's were lucky shits!
People who grew up in the 80's love that music... Blah blah.
If this song were written today, nobody, and I mean nobody would ever hear it. As it stands today, it's timeless...

This is one of those videos that just seems to capture time, the reality of it. But it is still a cool video.
This is Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis, a cameo Idol performance, anyone who remembers Travis, in his prime nobody could touch his vocals, but so many cigarettes and so many drinks and so many years, well I think you get it... sorta reminds me of my golf game
What I like about the video is the way Travis just smiles while Carrie sings, it shows a certain peace within...

HAVE to add this one to the archive:
IMO, Santana is the best guitarist of my life time, maybe Hendrix was as good, we will never know.
In this song, the guitar sings, make up your own words, the ultimate chill song,
Samba Pa ti

I love watching Carrie with the country legends. She always looks like a kid in a candy store, but you can also tell they love her voice. (Which is beautiful)
Anyway, I think this is an incredible..and very interesting cover..(I like their version of Rude Boy too)

I think this is an interesting video. Maybe the most high profile performance ever, on an Idol stage.
The thing is, Travis, may be the best tenor voice ever, in country music!

Clearly it ain't there now, he knows it. Carrie Knows it, everybody knows it...
Interesting. |

This one added.
After all, it is my personal archive. For an off the cuff, live performance, this is off the charts.

Have to add this one, otherwise I'll forget, everyone has forgotten about Gretchen Wilson, but I think this is one of the best CMA performances ever, not that it is necessarily hard for her to get into character for this song.
I remember this night because Martina and Gretchen were both favored to win the female award. Martina sounded great, Gretchen sounded off.
Then, as I do all the time, I went back and listened to my recording. And found this jewel from Gretchen Wilson. Maybe it's the way the live broadcast mixes verses the way my system records, it's above my pay grade.
I don't Feel Like Loving You Today
