We really shouldn't discriminate though, there are more than enough tall black girls who like to shoot outside shots - see Lisa Leslie, Tina Thompson since 2000, and the loveable Taj McWilliams-Franklin who hit her first 3 of the year in the playoffs. Way to be!

Kara Wolters?

Kara Wolters is the ultimate big white girl but it falls down at the "shoot outside shots" bit Laughing

It's not a racial thing; those are girls that can MAKE the shots!

Thanks Cam!

I've thought of a swap for Coretta just based on the two players not getting off the bench much, and Reka being from Purdue (good for Indy)
What I wasn't really aware of was what her true position was.
The trade might be good. I like Coretta, and I think she would do well playing with The Diana.

If Maria Conlon could do well playing with The Diana, my mother could do well playing with The Diana, certainly Coretta Brown would succeed playing with The Diana...

C'mon Alepp, if you believe CPTV, Maria leaving is why UConn is struggling, not Diana!

I'm thinking backup shooters is the last thing on Phoenix's mind at the moment.

Oh and here's an idea I'll drop - Lauren Jackson is the best shooter in the WNBA. Yay or nay?

That ain't half bad! Except could Indiana just choose who Phoenix wants and hold them up for more?

How about after they draft agreed upon players?

Phoenix wants Maria Stepanova to come back more than anything else. Indiana has no leverage on that front.

I joined the bandwagon a bit after Kate.

I've always felt a bit bad for her though - has the skills but not the athleticism. Ann Strother is the modern Kate Starbird (with an athleticism upgrade).

Kate, Kristen, and Jamila... (mainly Kristen Folkl) are what turned me onto the Cardinal. White girls who like to shoot, two of which were tall Razz

Nah, Baranova has been doing the outside-shooting thing since Lo-Jack was wearing bangs in the late 80's Wink

Now it's early 2000s and Baranova's got the bangs...

This is going back in the conversation a bit, but I think the problem with Marie last year was that her team never ran plays to open anyone up, and she had to create for herself. While she is one of the best 1-on-1 players in the league, you can't just drive over and over with no help. I think last year's disaster of a coach is more the reason why Marie would not have been an All-Star than anything else.

Wade, I absolutely agree. I would think that SASS fans would still be upset about the Dee Brown coaching decision. Still, I think that the combination of two down years, in addition to a new coach with a very different style in terms of how Marie really works as a player (defensive and not so much run and gun), there will be less need for Marie and to rely on her speed, or at least it seems a likely possibility that Hughes will feel she doesn't fit his system well.

I think it may very well come down to Hughes vs. CDW, not in a negative way, but as a compromise, to see who stays and who goes, and we all know who the team will be built around - Latoya Thomas.

While LJ is the best all around player, I am not sure I can say she is the best "pure" shooter. She is certainly among the top five, maybe even three best shooters. KT Smith was mentioned, and I still marvel everytime Sheryl Swoopes squares her shoulders to the basket and goes up for a jumper...that is pure art.

I certainly was surprised to see Lauren standing in the corner a couple of times during the Gold Medal game with not a soul around guarding her, shrugging her shoulders and hoding up her hands, just waiting for someone to pass her the ball to take a shot.

I wouldn't leave LJ's hands empty of the ball if it is possible. She has a golden shot, that's for sure.
