it seems nirvana always tops this list. someone would be hard pressed to find a song that defined that entire decade like "smells like teen spirit" did.

i've often wondered how far sublime's music reached across the us. since they were from long beach they've been huge here, even after all this time they're in heavy rotation on the stations. are they even played anymore outside of socal?

When they came out, they were pretty huge at Purdue at least. I don't listen to our local radio stations anymore, but I do hear them occassionally on Sirius satallite radio. "Wrong Way" is one of my favorite songs.

what a fucking lame list. for claiming to be so "alternative" they are way short on REM, which practically birthed the "alternative" scene of the 90s. ...and don't try to tell me they didn't. i'm not saying they invented that genre of music, but they had a big part.

Matty's right, this barely scratches the surface. What about rap for example?
Fight the Power by Public Enemy is one of the best ever
Nuthin' But a G Thang by Dr. Dre
Ms Jackson by Outkast
I'm Bad and Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J
and the list can go on and on

i think it's meant to be triple-A (adult album alternative) list.

Folks, this is an alt rock list.
Top 105 Alt Rock Songs would've been more accurate.

I still hear Sublime here in Minnesota on one of the stations I listen to, I miss them.
I'm liking this list. I'm surprised that Weezer was not higher up with Budd Holly, I still love that song. Janes Addiction should be higher up. I would move Radiohead-creep down on the list. I love Alternative music, thanks for posting the list link.

Nuthin But a G Thang - classic
The 90s for me would have to include Daft Punk's "Around the World."

i'm guessing that since its the list from an alt rock station its going to have nothing but alt rock. kroq 106.7 would have pretty much the same thing. i like when mtv or even vh1 put together a best of list because those are a lil bit more inclusive.
how could a top 90's list leave off anything by snoop dogg or ice cube?

I thought "alt" meant an alternative to the crap that's on the radio. Where's Fugazi? Sunny Day Real Estate? Circle Takes the Square? Jawbreaker?

now here's the group that should be credited with the evolution of grunge. after they lost their lead singer andrew wood to an overdose the remaining guys found themselves a lead singer from san diego and became pearl jam.

No Doubt!
Yeah, I'm suprised 'Sugar Kane' didn't make the list too... They were even featured in that 'Simpsons Go to Lollapalooza' espisode, along with Billy Corgan

(Introducing themselves)
Billy: Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins.
Homer: Homer Simpson, Smiling Politely. |
But it looks like their definition of 'Alt. Rock' is pretty general too... For example, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are a ska band, and Prodigy's 'Smack My Bitch Up' is more Techno and really more famous for the music video than the song... I still remember pulling an all-nighter and catching it on MTV the night before they pulled and censored it.. (of course, this was before you could download it on Napster)
