“He was always very professional as a player, and he got to the mountaintop,” Heat assistant Bob McAdoo told the Rocky Mountain News. “He's also been there in the WNBA. You can say it's coaching women, but that was great experience.”

Evil or Very Mad Why does McAdoo's statement remind of the old saying, "He throws like a girl."? Sure he can throw (coach to a championship), but it's only like a girl (in the WNBA).

Given a team with some talent, I don't see any reason that Cooper wouldn't be successful. The NBA is a little different, he'll have to use his bench more for one thing, but not as different as people make it out to be. The Sparks had far more talent when Cooper took over, relative to their league, than the Nuggets have now. He won't win 79% of his games there like he did in LA.

As for the potential of other WNBA coaches going to the NBA, Cooper is probably too anomalous to be much of a trendsetter. He was an NBA assistant before taking over the Sparks and has the best winning percentage in league history. If it requires an NBA background, two W titles, and a winning percentage of nearly .800 to get noticed, there will be few crossovers. And if he's not successful as an NBA coach with all that going for him, it will decrease the chances of W coaches making the jump even more. Still, we may see some W coaches getting assistant coaching gigs in the NBA, and that's really the best place for someone interested in an NBA head job to go.

Ron Rothstein seems to be doing well at the Heat as an assistant too. However, I have yet to see Ron wear a team colored suit like Cooper did. Didn't think it was possible for someone to pull off a golden nugget-colored suit like Cooper wore Confused
