Becky Hammon.
It is her first ever POTW award.

Other candidates were Cheryl Ford, Nykesha Sales, Sheryl Swoopes, Tamika Whitmore, Penny Taylor, and Alana Beard.

Not a bad choice, but it should have been Penny.

dang....2 weeks in a row for Penny to be nominated. No sign of any letdown. Maybe she can go for the hat trick this week?

No disrespect to Becky, but Penny Taylor has been putting up huge numbers. Then again, the 3-1 record on the road was incredibly impressive for the Liberty.

No disrespect to Penny, but she's done that against weak ass teams in DT's absence.

barely... she was in foul trouble most of the game.
i'm not all rah rah about this. penny had a great week, and judging by numbers alone she probably should have won it. but becky helped the team pull together some improbable wins. if PT's team hadn't lost to BH's team, i bet she would have had it.
that's my feeling among those nominated. i truly believe, tho, that baranova's awakening was much more important to the liberty's wins than becky, who did, after all, have a pretty sloppy game last night.

All right, so in that one game she did it against a decent team, she still didn't have better numbers than Becky. Becky managed more points in fewer shots (and also taking it to the basket, which she hadn't done in a while). It is well deserved. If PT keeps this up, she'll get it sooner or later.
I have been one of Becky's greatest critics, but we need to give the girl a break, she's been playing well enough and she got her act together.
Her attitude has been positive and, despite last night, she's been keeping the TOs down, which is a sign of better decision-making. I still hate the drive-and-dish, but I'm starting to think this is a pet-peeve of mine anyway lol

It's the latter part Cam! If the Merc had gone 3-1 playing Seattle, Sacto & Houston (just to name another team), then sure PT would be POTW.
Regardless, congrats to Becky and PLEASE leave Beckytrice at home girl!

Check your numbers, BCBG. For the past week:
Hammon
16.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.2 steals, 4.2 turnovers.
Taylor
21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals, 4.0 turnovers

Cam, I am not going to discuss this. PT IS the scoring the Merc had left when Diana couldn't play. Becky isn't our go-to player and still she managed comparable stats. I hate the stat comparison when this is not even necessary, but you started it.
One stat you, conveniently, left out: Becky played 4 games against the West's best teams (except Phoenix, of course). She took 9.5 shots per game, while PT took 12 per game. She shot 54% from the field, PT shot 50%. She averaged 30.5 MPG, PT averaged 36.
But to me, the most important stat is that PT only played two games and one of them was more like a scrimmage.

BCBG, I am not saying Becky was not deserving. I was just pointing out you were wrong about the PPG.

I wasn't wrong, but you misunderstood my comment. I said Becky managed more points than Penny when we played Phoenix. Not that she averaged more points than Penny.
POTW can be rather unfair at times, but I guess this one time they got it right for a change. I for one was sick of it going to the usual suspects.

It's all good, buddy. But now that you know who the Beckytrice is, you can understand why this is such a relief!
