Guard Alyssa Fressle is leaving Colorado. It doesn't appear to have to do with the coaching change.

"As Alyssa and I sat down during my first couple of days here, it was clear her heart was not with CU women's basketball and had not been for quite some time," Lappe said. "We want to wish Alyssa the best of luck in her future endeavors." |

“I have always been very close to my family, and I learned that I still need their support on a daily basis,” Hollins said in a statement released today through the Athletic Department. “It was hard for my mom to travel constantly to see me and be there for me and I feel it’s best for me to try and get closer to home.”
This is a huge blow for a Michigan program that just started turning the corner. Day was personal highlight reel. I expect she'll end up at Xavier, the team she surprised in her hometown by putting up 22 points in December.

Sorry but if it IS X I'd call more a pattern of behavior on McGuff than any "Closer to Home" excuses we've seen this dance before and it don't impress me AT ALL...Too bad Balcomb gave way to well Captain Sleezy...
Yeah I'm officially SICK of Kevin McGuff's poaching antics, let's HOPE it's not true but well...I doubt it.
but it all works out in the end...

I guess you could call it poaching, but then again, in a way so is recruiting out of high school.
College coaching is about recruiting, recruiting, recruiting and recruiting, and it would seem that a smart coach wouldn't stop recruiting once players went off to college. There are always significant talents that transfer, and the more of those you get, the better your team will be.
So is that poaching, or is it doing your job?

| I think clay is right about that. I really believe in keeping relationship, what if the players has a teammate or friends that will fit into the program. You have to keep connections.

Although somewhat premature, and too many unknowns, Coach Cullop twittered last night that UT would be securing another player today, and at 8:30am, on RocketDigest, Premium report, UT's reporter stated that another player for UT's WBB would be announced today, and may very well be another JUCO, per Brian Nowicki.
Have I mentioned within the past month how much I thank the deities for Coach Cullop? After late, unanticipated transfers, injuries etc... she is still making lemonade out of lemons, to be horrendously trite. Could have said something about making silk purse out of sow's ear, but those under 40 would be utterly lost.
Will supply name, story link when officially announced.

New Lady Rockets Signee
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sarah Clark - Owens CC (Delphos St John's)
5-11 Guard
From Head Coach Tricia Cullop:
"Sarah Clark, 5’11” guard from Owens CC, just signed her NLI to play at UT next season. Sarah’s skill set reminds me much of Allie Clifton. She can shoot from behind the arc, post up, and crashes the boards hard. She is also a winner, helping lead Owens CC to a #6 NJCAA national ranking and 27-6 record. Sarah is an Ohio native, originally from Delphos St. John HS. She is most likely the final signee for the 2010-11 season."

Oh, and Brenna Heater left Cal to go back to Oregon and go to beauty school.
No transfer, apparently, unless the beauty school has a team in the Ashland city league. |
One of my favorite players. I will miss watching her at Cal.
The whole thing seems patently ridiculous to me: giving up a full ride scholarship (I assume) at BERKELEY only to drop out. I suspect several years from now she'll be seriously regretting this decision. The impetuousness of youth.

You should do a little research before you make these kind of pronouncements. Heater was forced to come back from an injury before she was ready and has played in constant pain since. All articles indicate that she's very much at peace with her decision.

I know all about the injury you cite and the concussions; I'm not sure what made you think I didn't (or that I didn't do "research").
At any rate, I just think it's a shame that she gave up a scholarship at one of the most prestigious public schools in the country. Perhaps it's because I'm in academia, but that's something I consider extremely valuable. Many people would "kill" for that opportunity.

Maybe she wasn't going to get her scholarship next season, so she would have to pay for school on her own and if she can't afford it, she would have to get a loan if she wanted to go there. Also if what was previously mentioned above that she is going to beauty school, Cal can't do much for her, I doubt they have a beauty school department.
If all along her plan was to go to beauty school after she finished playing basketball at Cal, she could have only been at Cal for basketball and not because of the school._________________ DeLisha Milton-Jones is my favorite player

Brenna states that she was still having short term memory loss because of her concussions, hardly the makings of a Cal student. What good is a full tuition if you can't even absorb the material. If the coaching staff did indeed force her back causing further complications, how could a player look to them for guidance and trust?
However, your suggestion that her decisions were made of youthful impetuousness were, in my mind, just flat out wrong. Her interviews tell of a young lady who hardly took the decision lightly but instead put great thought into it. Moreover, she says she's happy.
Just for the record, there are lots of Cal graduates who are hitting the unemployment line as well. Liberal Arts degree, anyone?

I loved watching Brenna, if only briefly, during her time on the court at Cal. She did have a major ankle injury that required surgery her senior year in high school and didn't come to Cal during the summer as the other frosh do (beginning in July). I think she had to get into shape fast (which she appeared to do) but I'm sure it wasn't easy....
However, on another note, I also believe she has a boyfriend who was returning from Iraq or Afghanistan. They were high school sweethearts and have a belief that that also may have played a role in her decision to leave Cal.
I wish her well. Sometimes youthful decisions work out, sometimes they don't. Cal has extra scholarships at this point (despite keeping Tierra Rogers on one) so I don't think that would have been an issue....
Speaking of Tierra (OT) she is doing well. Finished up her freshman year and is now doing summer school at Cal. To me, that is the BEST story of the year in terms of Cal. To see her hang in there through what has been an emotional year of loss (on top of earlier loss) and to work hard in school, be captain of the team....says a lot about that young woman. ) |

I wonder if Xavier's performance at the Sweet 16 --- considering that they nearly eliminated highly-rated Stanford --- was a big factor in her decision to go there.

I'm sure it could have been a factor. But I'm guessing that the fact that Cincinnati is her hometown also contributed a great deal to the decision. And I don't think the Univ of Cincinnati would have been a place for her to transfer to since she had previously played at another Big East shchool.

On a side note, is there a state with as many Major and MidMajor schools as OH competing for a finite no# of in-state gbb players? We have OHSt, Xavier, Cinci, Dayton, Cleveland St, and all those OH MAC schools, w/o even mentioning DII, and JUCO's.
I know we do private dances of ecstasy when we are able to keep top local talent home. Maybe Indiana? If one of our stat gurus knows off the top of their charts, and has a moment, please share. Don't want to get off on lengthy tangent, just sincerely interested.

I don't know exactly what you're asking, but a lot of California schools have mainly California rosters, are there are a few schools with all California rosters._________________ DeLisha Milton-Jones is my favorite player

Thanks, but this query arose during the recent(and on-going) conf. realignments, on a board I cannot recall. An OH college alum discussed the no# of DI schools in OH per population, vs most states, like Texas w/massive pop., and less DI's as a % of pop. vs OH.
An arguement was being made about possible reduction in so many DI schools in OH, both due to pop. changes, and to keep our DI's viable and competitive.
Thus the question I made, knowing several posters have access to stats like this.
Disregard this only vaguely transfer-related question. Seemed important at the time.

Boston College lost 3 players to transfer.
I just found out about it today while doing a post on my sports blog.
Jasmine Gill went to James Madison
Kelsey Reynolds went to DePaul
Mary Nwachukwu went to St. John's

Three more? On top of the three last time out? That's a bit disconcerting, and it's not like this batch really stepped down in class like the last one did.

I hope the school got her all of the fMRI of the brain and cat scans and everything else that she needed health wise. You can have brain injuries without having concussions. The fact that she had concussions and is now talking of short term memory loss means she definitely needs and needed extensive medical care. Besides the short term memory loss, she could be suffering from anxiety, depression, lack of confidence, or any number of other mental and emotional side effects.
I just hope she gets well and is happy.

Yeah, they lost Lauren Whitehurst, Mia Nickson and one other before last season, turned down a WNIT bid after the season without a believable reason, lost three players to graduation and now 3 to transfer. They've got 4 returning players and everyone else is new.

I didn't look at the pdf file, I looked at the HTML page and it correctly lists them as seniors. My guess, just a mistake.

She apparently wants to play basketball again and Tennessee won't clear her.
