will the order be based on records?
and can the Mercury afford a big time post player?

I think that is usually how they do dispersals and what Sancho to Atlanta and Ajavon to Washington is based on.

Wow, this is bad news for Comets' fans and for the league. I am so sorry that this is happening.

However, since it is, I am curious to see what the new brain trust here in DC will do with their second pick.

My source says Sancho first then Ajavon to Mystics but that could have just been their pick/educated guess and not official, I'm not sure. Smile

Surely the Styx can't feel Ajavon can play point guard. Can they? She can barely dribble without carrying the ball let alone exhibit the decision-making and shot selection needed from a W point guard.

So where are all of the people who talk about the need for expansion based on the purported level of talent? Talent doesn't justify shit (and there isn't enough talent to justify expansion) when the existing franchises cannot survive economically.

Actually, you're also allowed to draft restricted free agents and reserved players that belonged to the team being dispersed, so add Roneeka Hodges (restricted) and Renae Camino (reserved draft rights) to the list of available above. There are a couple of even more random foreigners whose rights Houston still hold from back in the dark ages as well but they're essentially irrelevant.

If Meadors takes anyone other than Lyttle she's a gigantic moron, but with some of the personnel moves she's made so far in Atlanta nothing would surprise me. If Washington takes Ajavon (probably the best player left, when considering age, but not the best fit for their needs), the third pick by Chicago could be interesting. Johnson and/or Dixon might threaten to retire rather than play if they don't fancy playing in Chicago, which I guess would leave them with White (or maybe Williams). I think they could probably most use PeeWee, as long as she's willing to play there.

During the 2008 Expansion Draft Atlanta was allowed to pick one unrestricted free agent and core her, will the WNBA have the unrestricted free agents available in the dispersal draft or just have the restricted free agents and players under contract?

No, different situation. Unrestricted free agents immediately become truly unrestricted and can be signed by anyone. UFAs can't be selected in a Dispersal Draft.

So Thompson, Snow, Maiga-Ba, Mabika and Byears are all available on the open market and free to choose their own destination.

If Chicago were to pick Erica White, they'd have a real theme going there.

thats what I kinda thought, but I remember during the 2008 expansion draft being allowed to pick an unrestricted free agent was a new thing, I don't remember other expansion teams being allowed to pick an unrestricted free agent so I was just curious. Thanks for answering

Do you think Tina has any desire to come back home to the Sparks, I know before she had wanted to play for the Sparks and she is good friends with Lisa Leslie and Candace Parker, I think DeLisha Milton-Jones as well

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see T in LA . . . if she plays at all.

A signed-and-traded Kara Braxton (at 5 bucks under a max salary, naturally) and a 2nd round pick.

Tempted by a starting frontcourt trio of Bales/Braxton/Feenstra, Marynell Meadors is currently seriously considering it...

(that was a joke, just in case anyone was silly enough to think I was serious)

Me either, I would like to see Tina in a Sparks uniform, but it has been at least 12 years I would say since she lived in LA, plus she may no longer have ties except for a few friends, so LA may not have the appeal to her as it once did. But LA is her hometown so you never know

Sad day. But I hinted at this even before the start of last season. Doesn't bode well for the league in general.

what Indiana wants to add more former Sparks players? Wink

For reals though, I think Tamecka might fit in well there, she can handle the ball, is a solid defensive player and can score

I don't think DeLisha Milton-Jones is going anywhere...DeLisha will be more than willing to come off than bench if the Sparks get that extra piece to get closer to the championship. DeLisha did come off the bench during the 2002 playoff run, although she did play the majority of the game, but to have a post rotation of the Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker, DeLisha Milton-Jones and Tina Thompson would be unbelievable and each player would be able to rest 8-10 mins a game and not average 35-38 mins a game this season.
