Per Dee and Sue's blog, Candace will be playing for UMMC, not CSKA like someone previously stated.

UMMC has Penny Taylor, Tweety, Cappie, and Abrosimova this year as far as I know. Asjha Jones, Sandrine Gruda, and Suzy Batkovic played last year per their roster.

Candace told Andre Aldridge, Tina and Cheryl Miller during an Interview (after winning her Awards) on NBA TV that she wouldn't be playing this Offseason.. I kept waiting for her to say "until", and then give a Month or something but she didn't..

Really? That's good news.

But she's told some media here and she wouldn't make a decision until January, so we'll see.

Asjha Jones to UMMC (RUS)

That sucks, after reading the article, it sounds like they are basically screwing her over...the cut her the day before the season so she can't sign with any other European club and now they are not releasing her so she could play in Australia

That's right. Parker did say in that interview that she was just going to take time off and rest her body during the off season. She said it will be great not to have to get up with the alarm clock. She said the most trying thing for her this year was the frequency of the games. Too many games so quickly. I think she's worn down. Her body could use some rest. She didn't however mention if she was going to have shoulder surgery like some have indicated.

That got me thinking how many are going to have to bypass that money this year to stay home and recuperate? The big name that came to my mind was Swin Cash. Wasn't that one of the issues? She wasn't sure what to do with her back because of overseas commitments Question Confused I remember thinking has she ever went overseas before.

There are 8 players from the Mercury I can't find on the FIBA website, anyone know what they are doing?

Jennifer Derevjanik
Barbara Ferris
Kelly Mazzante
Yuko Oga
Allie Quigley
Olympia Scott
Brook Smith
Tangela Smith

Seems like alot not to go somewhere doesn't it?

It's actually play in Asia and not in Europe, but I figured I'd put it here:

Kelly Schumacher to China

It looks like they tried to get Dydek first ("Di Dek") and then another player from the Silver Stars. Schumacher appeared to be their third choice.

Where is she playing? why did she decide not to go? if you happen to know the answer that would be cool Wink

Any idea how top salaries in Spain compare to the Russian salaries? I'm just thinking - does Delisha Milton lose money by playing in Spain vs. Russia or does her club compensate her well?

I imagine the quality of life is much better in Spain, mainly due to the weather, but I have to wonder - if I'm a top WNBA player (Olympic caliber), do I suck it up for a Russian winter to get my half million, or will be my beloved club team (i.e. Ros Casares) offer a competitive package?

Just curious.

This might help. It was written in 2003 but I don't think much has changed since then. I've been reading Paul Shirley's book and he talks about the fact that sometimes Greek clubs don't follow through on their promises.

http://www.basketball-overseas.com/archives/2003/08/23/best-overseas-basketball-countries/

Playing in Spain vs. Playing in Russia - Shirley talks about experiences with both. Spain has the advantages of better weather and better housing. Furthermore, many Americans know at least a little Spanish, but if you play for Barcelona, you're screwed - they speak Catalan there, and they won't care much for your attempts at speaking Spanish.

As for playing in Russia, yes, more money but more heartache. The lodgings and facilities in some cases are right out of the Soviet era. Diana Taurasi lived in an apartment where the plumbing couldn't handle flushing toilet paper; used TP had to be gathered in a basket for disposal. The plane service is...well, if you're Catholic, you might want to enlist the aid of several saints. Russian as a spoken language isn't very much like English and a different alphabet is used. If you go to Russia for the cash, you're paying for it in other ways.

There's not any news in News Google Poland about Margo Dydek outside of her recent appearance for the Sparks. I assume she's keeping a low profile...if such a thing is possible. Very Happy

I haven't seen Mwadi Mabika's name listed, or at least I haven't noticed her name, does anyone know if she is playing in overseas this off-season?

Not sure if this has been posted but here's a list of all of the players and their respective teams...

http://www.wnba.com/news/overseas_0809.html

Tan Smith is headed to China as well. I wonder what the big deal is. I hadn't heard of foreigners playing in China in a couple seasons. Maybe they have big money.

Plus one other player translated as "Walter希斯蒂格林". I have seen her listed all sorts of ways - as "Walt GREEN" for example. She is listed as "foreign aid from the United States, 5, was born in 1983, 1.92 meters, 97.5 kilograms. Have effect as well as the WNBA league in Europe, the defensive player, good rebounds."

No birth date listed. But not one of the three women above.

Jennifer Fleischer. A former center from the University of Pennsylvania. No other American players AFAIK.
