The Hawks are going to end up with Marvin Williams. I can feel it. He's gonna be a bust. He couldn't start for UNC over some other people in this draft, how is he going to start for an NBA team?

He didn't start for UNC because Roy Williams kept him hidden on the bench...out of fear he would leave early. Duke kept Maggette on the bench during his freshman season as well.

I didn't see much from Bogut either...dunno if he's worth the #1, but then again, who in this draft is head and shoulders better than anyone else (serious question)?
Maybe the Stoudamire guy from Arizona?

Yeah, not particularly enamored with Bogut, but with bigs no team can be really picky... Especially Milwaukee.

I met the Stoudamire guy and his agent recently... He'll probably go in the second round.

Portland is currently all over the place... They would actually take Williams if he fell to #3 Shocked

BTW, here's a place to enter your picks Arrow

Considering how Maggette turned out for Orlando, I don't feel much better.

Quote:
Mullin covets Granger as possible replacement

With the No.9 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors select ...
A replacement for the player they took six slots higher three years ago?

Ten months after basically giving away one of his best players — Erick Dampier — in a sign-and-trade, Warriors chief decision-maker Chris Mullin must weigh his options with another of his regulars — Mike Dunleavy — this off-season as the former Duke standout prepares for his fourth NBA season.

Mullin has never given an indication Dunleavy will be anything but a lifelong Warrior, but tonight Mullin's actions will speak louder than his words when he picks from a short listfrom Sports 1 of mostly frontcourt players in making Golden State's ninth lottery pick in the past 11 years.

Without question, New Mexico small forward Danny Granger is at or near the top of Mullin's wish list.

Time to update the mock drafts... Idea Hey, maybe he'll go to Portland... they're considering just about everybody Razz

Yeah, not a bad trade, but they're not done Razz Still trying to move up, move Ruben Patterson, Darius Miles, perhaps Zach Randolph, and no one is untouchable except Telfair... John Nash is lucky to have a job and I think he knows that he only has this year to earn himself some security. Who knows, maybe they'll trade for Dunleavy Twisted Evil

He played a whopping ONE season in Orlando, on a team with no talent and helped to lead them to a 41-41 record. He is now a 20 ppg scorer. Pretty darn good.

He didn't play very well or very much as a rookie in Orlando. Then they traded him for nothing. I can easily see the Hawks fumble Williams the same way if he does show some talent.

Besides, both of our forward spots are filled, with Harrington and Smith. Chris Paul or Andrew Bogut would be far better fit for us.

Orlando's loss...one year should not make a career, especially when drafting high schoolers or underclassmen.

I agree that Paul and Bogut would be better fits. O

Yeah, but if you stick with them you might get stuck with Kwame Brown. There's almost no winning with 18-19 year olds that don't show immediate returns. Even the ones that pan out usually don't do it for their drafting teams.

It is an interesting balance. You have to show talent early, but you are up against the learning curve...teams need to win, but they take raw talent over more proven commodities.

Teams looking to win it all aren't worried about rookies. The four teams in the conference finals had one rookie among them. In the free agency era, you're better off taking more proven players and letting someone else develop the raw talent.

I like the Bogut = Brad Miller comparison.

Hopefully he will help to raise the profile of basketball down here.

My initial point, to which you responded, was about the balance, specifically in regard to Maggette, discussed earlier in the thread. It wasn't as if Orlando was a playoff team the year before (not that I recall, anyway).

Nobody has become a playoff team by drafting HS players. Better to draft college kids and sign the HS players after the Clippers are through with them.

Congratulations to Bogut Smile

Will definitely give Aussie basketball a boost, although whether he is a worthy #1 pick is another matter altogether.
I watched a lot of him at Utah, and his lack of defence is a big conern to me. I definitely enjoy his work at the fun end of the floor though.

I just wish he hadn't spent so much time in the last couple of days bashing our past Aussie players. That definitely lowered him down a notch or two in the class department for me. Even though most of what he said was absolutely true, I didn't think there was any need for it. Luuuc Longley is an easy target, but going after Andrew Gaze is just low IMO.

Don't know too much about him, except that the Knicks needed a center and was an easy selection for the mock drafts... Not a fan of Centers under 7 foot, and he's rather Camby-like, but NY definitely doesn't need any more guards...

Meanwhile, Portland has gone from the Jail Blazers to the Trail Babies Shocked Not sure if that's an upgrade... but at least it's different Confused
