Herrade, I'll never forgive you! Twisted Evil
Now seriously, anyone want to chime in with their view as to why she plays better on the road and has an occasional good game at the Garden?
She has to be a toughie, I mean, she didn't let a lot of bullies (Sam included) trouble her, so what's up with that?

My theory is that it's all those "baby" vibes heading her ways. Give her a new tougher nickname, and I bet you'll see an immediate turnaround! Idea

hey, now. accepting that you have a problem is the first step toward correcting it. thank me for acquainting her with this issue so that she can start to deal.

Ok, so I will jump on the Meeksiah bandwagon, no more yelling Go Baby, Go! like a nut at the Garden.

Yes. "Meka." It's short for Shameka...

If Shemeka is a religious person ( which I believe she is ), don`t you think she might find this offensive?

babe, i don't know shameka... i don't know if she is a religious person or not. so maybe meeksiah would offend her, then again maybe it wouldn't. maybe she considers herself to be a grown woman, and is offended by being called baby...perhaps she would be offended if she seen that you spelled her name SHEMEKA...instead of shameka. really, who knows.

then again, maybe just maybe, she would see it and take it as its meant to be, a play on words...but only shameka would know that.

Apologies to you and #20, typing is not my forte...

As for the nickname, I must have misunderstood the thread. I thought we were trying to find a way to make her more comfortable in MSG.

Yes, comfortable being the key word. Not sure the nickname by itself is the one thing bothering her, but anything to put an end to the Garden jitters (maybe I should go to the US sooner, she had 3 good games when I was there).

here's a thought...perhaps shameka could care less about a fan given nickname. i think i'll go with that thought.

I was the one who tossed the nickname out onto the table, half in jest. I wasn't thinking about her actually hearing fans shouting the nickname and her reaction to it. I was thinking more about, oh, let's say "psychic energy" or "vibes". I'm not sure I believe in that kind of thing anyway, but if it does mean anything, thinking of someone as "The Baby" doesn't seem like the best way to go when you're talking about a pro athlete. You really don't want her to live up to that nickname when she's out on the court. Okay, as a rookie maybe it works . . . but now that you're wanting to see her take over a major role on the team, maybe it doesn't quite fit anymore.

Just a thought.

near the end of last season a couple of us spoke with shameka...and told her that her nickname was the Baby. she laughed and said earnestly...i heard that was what some fans were calling me...

so she takes it good naturedly...

after all they call the big guy in Denver, Nene, which in portuguese is "baby"...

its a term of endearment...that i believe Freedom4christon gave her before she dubbed her Meeksiah...it was after some song, and or due to the fact that her shot somewhat resembled her majesty, Sheryl Swoopes, so she became "baby swoopes"

personally, i love "go, baby, go!!" and also call her Shameka, or Christon...

she is so cute and smiley (except when she has her game face on) that you almost gotta go with Baby...at least til she takes over as the Lib offense...and by then we'll most likely have another moniker for her Princess...

I like "baby", too.....it has a lot of meanings

as our 6th(wo)man, and eventual starter she is the "baby" of the family.....my problem with Meka is that there are so many in the league I don`t want to sound like I`m cheering for Catch when we`re playing the Fever

In that situation I use her full name.
