US men lead weak gymnastics qualifying group
Quote: |
The United States, led by fist-pumping Jonathan Horton, finished atop its qualifying group Saturday in men’s gymnastics at the Beijing Olympics.
Not that beating Spain and Italy in the early subdivision is indicative of much: The Americans must wait for the heavyweights from China, Japan and Russia, plus other strong teams such as Germany, South Korea and Romania, before knowing if they will make the final eight for the medals round. |

Agreed! But have to admit I'm glad they switched to the live May/Walsh beach volleyball match though.

Woohoo! After May/Walsh quickly dispatched Japan it's back to more men's gymnastics coverage. (I also can't wait the see Michael Phelps in action in the Cube)

After it's all said and done I hope the team score of the US team is enough to get them into the team competition.

HE WAS. What the hell! That was CRAZY. I just saw it and he blew away the other routines I saw. Loved it! |

That is why I love the basketball channel. NBC wastes time telling those "feel good" stories. Ok, nice they came a long ways to get into the game, some over came great obstacles , but this is a sporting event and we want to watch the sports! They show little enough as it is unless you are lucky to have certain channels.

Some of us aren't that lucky. I don't have an HD set so I have to suffer w/ the common, poor people and suffer thru NBC commercials. However, USA is doing pretty dfarn good. Hardly any commercials (regarding BBall games at least)

The alternate they called Sasha, you mean? That was indeed a helluva routine.
Gymnastics is hard for me to watch because I'm always a little tense that someone will fuck up. I was especially tense when all the US men were on tonight. There were moments when some of them seemed completely out of control. And the commentators weren't pointing out some obvious errors that were going on, like the way pretty much all the US men were unable to steady the rings during the hold poses.
When the Chinese came on later, the difference was stark. The rings were steady as a rock. Amazing routines.
The coverage was too short, though.
