Really good to see the men up and into the game, even staying til the end. GO USA! Very Happy

The women have been doing better than the men over the last few Olympiads. They better stay and soak up some inspiration! Laughing

Good. It's impossible to dislike that woman. She is amazing.

Fowles, very impressive! Wow!

Let's hope we'll be able to maintain this level of energy and effort throughout the rest of the Olympics.

And that the men can do the same. Laughing

A comment on "running up the score." That really doesn't exist internationally because at least in pool play you get points for the size of the victory. So teams internationally want to run the score up, and it's not necessarily seen as bad form as it would be in the US.

Good game for us. Nice to see us shake the jitters off. Taurasi had a particularly great game, as did Fowles. I really loved to see our bench get so much time, too.

In that case it would have been nice if the Cappie Patch Doll gave a final heave-ho from downtown so we could have ended up with a dollar bill. Laughing

Nah, I don't think it's bad form. It's a fact of life in the olympics.
Not that points will matter at all to the USA, but even so there isn't any combination they could put on the floor that wouldn't run up big scores on virtually every opponent.
They really should have brought Nancy over for mercy-rule purposes Razz

Very possible when she's amazing against your team Smile

Very geeky to say but it's so cool to be able to cheer for players I ordinarily don't because they play for the "enemy".

I love the olympics!

Very nice opening match by team USA, very balanced.

That wasn't live was it? I mean I guess it could've been considering it's only 9:47 PM in China.

Yep, it was. There's still one more game to come as well, but when you're playing six games a day all on the same court, you've got to start pretty early and end pretty late.

Okay I actually forget how do they decided who goes to the medal round, is it round robin and best records advance to medal round? Confused

Yes. Round robin, with the top 4 in each group advancing to the quarter finals.

Aussie commentator (and former Opal) Rachel Sporn was going ga-ga over DT's game as well. She's still winning fans all over the place.
