Nowitzki Named German Flag-Bearer in Olympic Opener
Quote:
Competing at the Olympics won't be the only first for the 30-year-old born in the Bavarian city of Wuerzburg. He is also the first basketball player to carry the German flag at an Olympics, succeeding show jumper Ludger Beerbaum (2004), kayak canoe racer Birgit Fischer (2000) and fencer Arnd Schmitt (1996).

What, no love in the past for Detlef Schrempf?
Shame on you, Germany!

Yeah, Luuuc. What about Detlef? I think it's because nobody likes Storm fans and everybody hates West Coast Huskies. You may call me a proud Schrempfer.

I know you guys are mostly kidding, but just to point out, Germany didn't tend to qualify much for the Olympics in the Schrempf years. So he wasn't so much snubbed, as not even there to start with Wink.

Yeah, I actually did my homework on that before posting.
I don't like to throw accusations of Schrempfopfobia around lightly Wink
Germany mostly got off the hook on that one, but IIRC they still owe me an explanation for 1992.

Yes, I somehow missed Kirilikenko and had forgotten about Yao. Dirk looked very happy and even did a little dance. Ginobili was almost in tears. Very impressive opening ceremony so far.

Did the women basketballers walk? I wouldn't think so, especially the Opals as they have an early tip-off and Loz's ankle is fragile.

Team USA did. I know the Chinese didn't walk.
